Thanks for reaching out Hutch!
I suggest doing only one thing per event. With the many events I taken part now, trying to do more then one things mostly didn’t work due to people loosing focus and the first thing done already taking very long. Casual “lets just play now” afterwards are nice though.
One Suggestion from me (there are more … heh):
This:
Interceptor (and/or Bomber, Corvette) Teamdeath-match for ca. 45 minutes (excluding Setup). Balanced team enforced (call out person to switch).
Setup:
Restart match or find server with match which will not end soon.
Two designated referees, one per team, grind up to carrier prior to the event by blowing up defense stations. (Money can be also given with admin tools if possible)
A scenic place is chosen beforehand. For the first time I suggest a random place in Sarakes rings.
Carriers meet in the ring and position themselves 10km from eachother.
Referees have a piece of paper and pen ready or spreadsheet/notepad open.
Shared spreadsheet favorable as it would allow to solve issues with members switching teams.
Process:
Players gather on each side and wait for the bell (Go ahead from the Organizer).
Players proceed to try to kill the enemy team as many times as possible and trying to die less then them.
Each referee keeps track of every kill/death of their team trough visual observation.
Every five minutes ranks 1 to 3 for each team with number of kills and deaths per player is announced by the referees.
After a fixed time the match is declared over and after a quick comparison of results, the winning team and the overall 3rd, 2nd and 1st place are announced.
Maybe switch position of Carriers after halftime … optional though.
Additional Idea could be that carrier move slowly 100-300m/s trough the ring and follow each other.
Aftermath: (quite literally)
Referees check each-other and agree on official result.
Result in full (all participants) is posted by organizer with congratulations.
Top 3 overall are mentioned and congratulated in the next public post about the game (newsletter, development update, such) in the paragraph where the event is mentioned.
Maybe optional other token ingame or out of game but the mention of “tha best” is nice by itself.
Invitation to players that also might be interested in parttaking. Best with planed next type and time of event already ready.
Rules:
Players can join and leave the death-match at any time.
Bringing in capitals is not allowed, spawn exclusive at the carriers.
Referees should engage anything hostile within 2km. Attacking the carriers is not allowed and is considered disruptive.
Baiting players into carrier range on purpose is not allowed.
Corvettes are not allowed to repair other ships near the carrier.
To enforce rules, the carriers are allowed to kill enemy and friendly offenders. No other engagement should be done by them.
Addendum:
As for keeping track of kill / deaths the zoom function should be sufficient. I thought about using the spectator cam but that will get too confusing I think.
As for what should be tracked. I think every referee should have a list of participants plus one “unknown” row.
Kills of a player or deaths of a player are quickly noted by adding a line
If intensity is low every “Killed” and “Killer” could be noted but I am not sure if that works out.
Uncertainties of who a kill should be attributed to will happen but that’s alright, the referees will try the best to assign kills to the right person and they have to provide spawning capability anyway, so might as well fill that role.
Edit: I think a spreadsheet would be able to easily generate the 5 minute update messages to be posted too. Making it even easier on the referees. (copy/paste) and life tracking for participants, organizers and maybe even watchers.
