I brought up the subject of more organized community events at last weekends “Townhall” (if you come up with a more scifi appropriate name let me know  )

The goal would be to provide balance feedback, and engage the community in interesting gameplay scenarios. Or to just have fun trying out random stuff.

Fleet vrs Fleet composition battles, atmo vrs space, etc.
1v1 combat strategies / handicaps.
RP stuff, mass fleet travel / formations.

Anything goes. As we get more in game features to play with we’ll be able to expand on gameplay / emergent experience. Let me know what you think.

My most memorable experiences in game were during the Trailer recordings with @SpaceJay. Just setting up fleet formations, flying through cinematic shots, calling new formations, loved it, and would definitely do that again

Edit: It actually takes me back to the old days, during the RP of the Black Order, hosting training sessions and formation flight practice in the ICP xD for those of you that remember such things

One of the best experience was the formation flying with all of you in the old falcon shaped ship.
Explore the great planets and show the other beautiful landmarks and views.

Thanks for reaching out Hutch!

I suggest doing only one thing per event. With the many events I taken part now, trying to do more then one things mostly didn’t work due to people loosing focus and the first thing done already taking very long. Casual “lets just play now” afterwards are nice though.

One Suggestion from me (there are more … heh):
This:
Interceptor (and/or Bomber, Corvette) Teamdeath-match for ca. 45 minutes (excluding Setup). Balanced team enforced (call out person to switch).

Setup:
Restart match or find server with match which will not end soon.
Two designated referees, one per team, grind up to carrier prior to the event by blowing up defense stations. (Money can be also given with admin tools if possible)
A scenic place is chosen beforehand. For the first time I suggest a random place in Sarakes rings.
Carriers meet in the ring and position themselves 10km from eachother.
Referees have a piece of paper and pen ready or spreadsheet/notepad open.
Shared spreadsheet favorable as it would allow to solve issues with members switching teams.

Process:
Players gather on each side and wait for the bell (Go ahead from the Organizer).
Players proceed to try to kill the enemy team as many times as possible and trying to die less then them.
Each referee keeps track of every kill/death of their team trough visual observation.
Every five minutes ranks 1 to 3 for each team with number of kills and deaths per player is announced by the referees.

After a fixed time the match is declared over and after a quick comparison of results, the winning team and the overall 3rd, 2nd and 1st place are announced.

Maybe switch position of Carriers after halftime … optional though.
Additional Idea could be that carrier move slowly 100-300m/s trough the ring and follow each other.

Aftermath: (quite literally)
Referees check each-other and agree on official result.
Result in full (all participants) is posted by organizer with congratulations.
Top 3 overall are mentioned and congratulated in the next public post about the game (newsletter, development update, such) in the paragraph where the event is mentioned.
Maybe optional other token ingame or out of game but the mention of “tha best” is nice by itself.
Invitation to players that also might be interested in parttaking. Best with planed next type and time of event already ready.

Rules:
Players can join and leave the death-match at any time.
Bringing in capitals is not allowed, spawn exclusive at the carriers.
Referees should engage anything hostile within 2km. Attacking the carriers is not allowed and is considered disruptive.
Baiting players into carrier range on purpose is not allowed.
Corvettes are not allowed to repair other ships near the carrier.
To enforce rules, the carriers are allowed to kill enemy and friendly offenders. No other engagement should be done by them.

Addendum:
As for keeping track of kill / deaths the zoom function should be sufficient. I thought about using the spectator cam but that will get too confusing I think.
As for what should be tracked. I think every referee should have a list of participants plus one “unknown” row.
Kills of a player or deaths of a player are quickly noted by adding a line
If intensity is low every “Killed” and “Killer” could be noted but I am not sure if that works out.
Uncertainties of who a kill should be attributed to will happen but that’s alright, the referees will try the best to assign kills to the right person and they have to provide spawning capability anyway, so might as well fill that role.

Edit: I think a spreadsheet would be able to easily generate the 5 minute update messages to be posted too. Making it even easier on the referees. (copy/paste) and life tracking for participants, organizers and maybe even watchers.

Oh man that sounds awesome.
Let’s do it!
Player should also report via text ingame or by voice chat when they were killed and who killed them. Would make it easier on the refs.

Another one … (many more … but last for today):
This:
Interceptor (and/or Bomber, Corvette) Protect the VIP match for ca. 45 minutes (excluding Setup). Balanced team enforced (call out person to switch). One life per round.

Setup:
Restart match or find server with match which will not end soon.
Two designated referees, one per team, grind up to carrier prior to the event by blowing up defense stations. (Money can be also given with admin tools if possible)
A destroyed Station or base is chosen.
Carriers meet at the station and position themselves 3km on opposite sides of it.
Referees have a piece of paper and pen ready or spreadsheet/notepad open.
Shared spreadsheet favorable as it would allow to solve issues with members switching teams.

Process:
Players gather on each side and wait for the bell (Go ahead from the Organizer).
One team is chosen to be defender, the others attackers.
Defenders are allowed one minute before each round to set themselves up inside the destroyed station/outpost. Each round an interceptor player is chosen as the “VIP” and announced at the end of the last round.
After one minute the attackers are allowed to attack and have 5 minutes to kill the VIP to get a point. If they don’t manage, the defenders get a point.
After either happens. The round is over and point assigned to the winner.
Every round the score is announced by the referees.
A new round starts after that with the same process.

Switch attackers/defenders after halftime.

After a fixed time or number of rounds the match is declared over and after a quick comparison of results, the winning team is announced.

Additional Idea could be that the attackers get a handicap with one of the defenders being allowed a capital ship.
Small alteration that could be fun is to have the defenders have the option to extract the VIP by bringing it to a way-point

Aftermath: (quite literally)
Referees check each-other and agree on official result.
Result in full (all participants) is posted by organizer with congratulations.
Winning “Team name” is mentioned and congratulated in the next public post about the game (newsletter, development update, such) in the paragraph where the event is mentioned.
Maybe optional other token ingame or out of game but the mention of “tha best” is nice by itself.
Invitation to players that also might be interested in part taking. Best with planed next type and time of event already ready.

Rules:
Players can join and leave after each round.

Addendum:
This is easier to track when it comes to points compared to teamdeath-match.
More organization and cooperation is needed as players need to return to starting positions several times. With “one life per round” rule this could be enforced more easily by the carrier. (Point HVM at forehead).

Some great Idea’s there @Lomsor, I’ll connect with Flavien and see what we can do on our end to make events like this a little easier to organize, without needing players to sit in carriers for instance.

Saturday Stream and Community Event. A new patch will be ready to test for this event.

Saturday, May 30th 2020 : DevStream & PvP Fleet Operations

19:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)
World time Buddy (Timezone Conversions) for this Event

Event Schedule
How the event plays out will depend on available in game features (some new commands for admins) and the number of players intersted in the different potential game modes. Please let me know if you have any idea’s, or would like to brainstorm on discord during the week leading up to the event. @Lomsor has already expressed some ideas, but I’d be happy to explore more.

  • Review the latest patch notes, discuss any new developments with the project.
  • Option01 Fleet operations consisting of fleet formation flight, and hitting enemy targets as a co-ordinated group
  • Option02 Fleet Composition gameplay, Scoria vrs Havoc. Balance the teams, and then setup fleet composition for controlled engagements. Fleet v Fleet engagements in varied environments, including support ships.
  • Option03 Scenario’s setup with controls in place for PvP fleet battles. (Custom spawn points with Elimination objectives, and score tracking) Some form of this may be possible given enough players are interested in a more competitive game format. Some in game Admin Tools may be available for testing within the next patch.

This will be an experimental format, so definitely join us if you’re interested in some friendly competition, want to brainstorm on gameplay, or just want to fly formations within a larger structured fleet.

Option 3 please.:grinning:
Two spawn Points opposite of each other in about 8 km distance. Preferably in an asteroid field for additional hidey places. Without npcs in the vicinity.
Would be ideal to test pvp interceptor/bomber/corvette gameplay.

Happy with whatever here.

Still, for something a bit different, is there any easy way to set up a series of larger, more powerful waves of enemy NPCs from only one side? A coop survival challenge with one or limited lives might be fun to try out.

I’m working on adding some admin commands that will be available to Dan to set up mini scenarios ( basically, being able to spawn… stuff… whereever he wants to ). It’d be pretty cool if it could turn into more advanced scenarios, but that’s not for the first version - I guess I’ll add more commands over time to allow some cool stuff. For this WE, basically he’ll be able to spawn any in-game object wherever he wants to. The AI bots can be disabled from moving around ( but can still attack enemies coming too close ) or be made invincible. If you have ideas of scenarios you’d like to see with these limited commands, let us know.
