What I would like to do is to tell the whole story of infinity. Starting at the beginning. There are so many stories within it that so many interesting prototypes, that i am sure such video could get really great.
Iāve now noticed that Iām managed to produce a better response to the game on the Elite forums than on the SC forums, where a good number have now indicated they intend to pledge. But the pledge total is still climbing slow.
Thatās most likely because Elite has been released for some time now, and the shine has started to wear a bit there. SC still isnāt generally available, and SC backers have a combination of āthis is taking too longā resentment (which bleeds over to anything else associated with SC, such as Kickstarters, or space games) and attachment to SC powered by strong motivated reasoning (they backed SC as āthe winnerā of the space games (over Elite), and will see that through until SC launches).
Basically, Eliteās community is swimming in reality, while SCās is still flying in the clouds.
Canāt do anything about new videos until new videos are posted, but what kind of details do you need about transitions?
Honestly, I wouldnāt spend too much time worrying about the SC crowd. Youāre dealing with the diehards there right now. Most of the casual backers are off playing Assassinās Creed right now, and gearing up for Fallout 4, or whatever else. They donāt linger around unless theyāre neck deep. Take it from someone whoās been hanging out here for 7 years. Whenever new videos are posted, you can share it there, but youāre not going to convince people there with words. In fact, a lot of them wouldnāt even be convinced if they got a chance to play the prototype. Theyāve conditioned themselves to not like anything else in the genre, and that will hold true until SC launches.
Convincing people is not my goal. Just raising hits and interest back to the KS campaign is my goal. And from there let nature take its course.
Thatās why Iām never rude or augmentative. Just nice and positive, posting the info to get more views of the threads. People will then make their own minds up.
The Elite forum has been more welcoming than SC.
Plus⦠Iām not very good an countering points and arguing with people on forums. Your rarely if never see me ever do it.
On a side note, is the new Assassinās Creed in London, worth a buy?
Thatās that motivated reasoning thing. The people who are still playing Elite are playing it because they like it. Theyāre no longer worried they backed the wrong horse, as it were. Members of the SC community, on the other hand, still have the opportunity to second guess themselves. But if theyāve already committed money to the project, theyāre going to do their damnedest to convince themselves they made the right choice.
Human psychologyās really funny that way. We live in a society highly focused on āwinningā. āWinningā is actually a status symbol! People worry about ālosingā (because ālosingā makes you a āloserā). Itās just how our society impresses itself upon peoples psyche. Itās a perfectly normal reaction for the SC community to have, given the current situation.
No idea! My potato diet canāt afford it, and my Wii U canāt play it!
More detail in general of what it will be like, what they want to achieve. And beyond 2 years.
Gas giants, floating factories and outposts. Gas giant cloud layers. The effects. Gravity. And now these will all interact and effect the ships flight model. The effects seen outside the front of the cockpit.
Just more detail. This stuff is good to post over the next week in that transitioning thread. Gets Star Citizens talking, which means some hits back to the KS. And some of those hits will convert to pledges.
Yep me too. Iām on the long, long slow save up for a solid good rigā¦sometime in 2017. Which for ED and SC and Infinity is perfect. Well SC may need a couple more years on top of that.
Long sentences and some paragraphs of devās just offering up more detail really. What they want to add in and deliver, and hope to at the 2 year point and beyond. As in what the game engine will support later with new features. Just enough so I can post bits to help move the thread along over a week or two maybe.
So thatās quite a lot of detail and I appreciate the devās might not have time right now for this. Iād like it added to they to-do lists though if thatās not to much to ask.

We have some ideas for gas giants such as putting Bespin style floating
factories in them. Weād like to spend a lot more time making gas giants
awesome if our Kickstarter is successful![/quote]
Volumetric clouds and atmospheric effects are in the $600,000 stretch goal
Implemented. You can already freely orbit planets in the prototype. The surface gravity of gas giants isnāt that impressive, though. Even Jupiterās surface gravity is only a little more than 2x that of Earthās.
Atmospheric drag is already implemented. Weather would compound that. Again, thatās the $600,000 stretch goal.
Iāve already got all this. Thanks. What I need is more detail of all these above. I saw the floating factories comment reply on the KS which is why Iām asking for more detail to flesh the ideas out more. To sell these ideas more. Sparks interest.
How low in the cloud layers will things like the floating factories and outposts be. And how will that look and feel to locate and then fly down to them. What will happen then. can you dock? what then. what types of effect will we see the ships go through while going deep into gas giants. How will the gravity effect the ships. i.e what will the player see and feel in the flight model.
What about the systems sun. Will some ships be able to fly closer than others. How close. Through the coronasphere. What will this close experience be like for the player.
Without giving too much away the devās donāt feel comfortable doing. Inc any other concept art not already published.
I would of thought this should be in the base game anyway. I would of expected it to be.
I am constantly very frustrated though with game software tech not moving forwards fast enough. A very frustrated futurist you could say. All games in general. Iām not getting any younger.
Volumetric clouds are rather computationally expensive, especially when youāre using ray scattering models like I believe the I-Novae engine uses for its atmospheres.
Keep in mind that those sky colours you see in game are calculated using physical scattering models. Itās not just setting a sky colour. Thereās actual physics being done.
Definitely going to need a good CPU then when I finally get to build a new rig. I wonder what will be out in mid 2017> With all the procedural generation due from Elite, Star Citizen and Infinity.
