I think you should mention on kickstarter abouth the The Quest for Earth. This will attract more people.
First impressions (the stuff Iāve seen so far, not necessarily the trailer):
Planets are very impressive looking and detailed, especially from space. Impressed by the the lack of popping (itās pretty much nonexistent), Vulcanic planets look really nice (eventhough itās lacking heat distortion effect). However, the rings/asteroids need polish (it bleaks in comparison to the quality/detail of the planets). Textures (design) on cockpit could need some improvement as well (as well as HUD), give it a more professional (AAA game) feel, it looks a bit rough atm. Some minor issues on the jagged edges on some mountains. Also mountains could use a bit of corrosion at the edges, some look a bit too sharp. Mountains are (although very nice) a bit swirly placed, Iād also like to see natural concentrations/formations as well as taller ones. Trees are obvious placeholders (I prefer either no trees or quality trees). I kind of miss the terracing (?) shown in some of earlier vids, and ofcourse the lack of craters (but that could be reserved for other planets). Canyons could use some sort of branching (ED has some of that). Other than that looks really really good and impressive.
What it needs though is land vehicles (a Buggy at least) because: Itās fairly easy to implement, doubles the fun, and doubles the interest. It seems too good to pass. Alternative vehicles: tank/helicopter (to give it a more strategic feel). And ofcourse (quality) clouds.
Edit: I like the bue-ish hue of the earlier rings (it looked like there was some dithering going on when looking from underneath esp. with sunglare), as well as the density (too many little rocks currently), asteroids themselves should be darker grey. Iād also like to see some mountain varations like those found on moons ( watch?v=rt6SYThgV24 / watch?v=j5gb2XfjW0U
). Other random stuff I found (cloud/water/grass/trees: watch?v=J9_RD9SjmwM / watch?v=JjZc9ayGlaM / watch?v=Fc0uFQO2BlU / watch?v=7sYg3QYFjfY / watch?v=0ygZCDoCVec
) but thatās just dreaming.
Thoughts on the KS campaign:
I approve all, except for modding/virtual marketplace/basebuilding. Also Iād like to see FB to keep on working on the planets (features/variety: dune/ice/geisers/scars/moons/anomalies), and let others focus on building the game around it.
There is no reason why you could not add that in if the modding stretch goal is hit.
I plan on doing that for a fairly sizable ground combat mod.
As for an official release the devs have said it is out of scope for the project. Maybe in the future?
Dunno.
I will use your mod to host dune buggy races
I am not so sure about helicopters / tanks or buggies. Helicopters would be pretty useless, as any star ship could just drop in from orbit, position itself above the heli and shoot it into the ground, A tank wouldnāt be fast enough to follow a starship which can fly multiple kilometers per second. The buggy also probably wouldnāt add anything to the gameplay, after all the goal is to wreck the enemies infrastructure on a solar system scale. Something you just canāt quite do with a buggy. My assumption is, that probably mods (if the stretchgoal is reached) will take care of the land vehicles.
Do you mean individual asteroids or the density of the rings? Because IMO this density is much better than for example the crowded rings in ED. And I bet itās much more realistic.
Agree on the trees (and clouds) but this is just a prototype and all placeholders will probably be replaced with equally impressive stuff as the terrain is now
Or just crash into it. Most spaceships would be much more heavily armoured than a helicopter.
Having helicopters in this game would probably be like having horse-drawn carriages in need for speed.
You could always have bf2142 esque fighterplanes
Maybe antigravity hovercraft which could fill the role of light fighters for in atmosphere combat
I hope that everyone who supported the campaign KS will have an advantage that will benefit all players who have played and will play in the future.
Antigravity vehicules might be a solution for urban combat.
Imagine your army has to take a structure, more or less intact, so bombardement is not a solution. The smallest space ships might be just small enough to fit the biggest avenues and lack some maniability. Even more if the city is composed of skyscrapers.
Outside of this particular domain, any space ship capable of atmosphere entry or bombing capabilities is superior to any ariborn or land contraption.
Yeah, and gamplay would like in Planetside. With orbital bombardment and air battles.
Keep in mind our rings have a non-uniform density. There are gaps with nothing between rings, and there are multiple rings that are pretty thin and that look pretty sparsely populated. However there are a couple areas where the rings are much more dense, but you have to actively look for them.
The starting location ( the asteroid base ) is under average in terms of asteroids density.
About those rings, Saturnās rings have twice more fragments of any size than fragments that are twice as big, and IIRC it has been determined to be the same with any planetary ring (Saturnās ring fragment upper limit is about 2m IIRC, so big rocks are not included there, there are more like moons - Iāve read the term āquasi-moonā there).
Is that the case with those? There seems to be a size gap between medium rocks and dust. Or are there technical difficulties/not resources to put in this minor points, maybe?
I can see them being a specific vehicle class. They use antigravity, so perhaps they should get a flight model better than any craft that can also fly into space. Perhaps the sensors of spacecraft would be limited by the nature of the antigravity drive, (no aim assist reticle?) and the antigrav fighters would be able to instantly reverse direction, hover, and maneuver better than any spacecraft.

edit: wow, just finished reading to the end of the thread, so much contention!
I have two 980s and have pledged for the Fove. That being said, while I would LOVE to have VR be an option, I can live without it as long as the game is made. Is multi-monitor support a thing?
