Yes, that’s unsettling, isn’t it? So much work on the visuals and so little about what players are going to do in that beautiful game world.
I suspect there is going to be change of focus, with SQ42 taking the front seat for a while.
I also find this rather interesting.
Lately i spend way more time watching junk and drama about games then to actually play em…
Change of focus? I’m shocked.
in more than 1 hour mission I have seen about 30 second of an awful space combat.
I would say this is a good presentation for what it has started as a space sim.
(i think due to way gravity is being simulated there’s only one stable orbit altitude though)
The PU is fun, at first i was crashing a lot with consistently inconsistent frames but when they tweaked interdictions serverside my framerate has been a pretty consistent 30ish, i also havent crashed once in around 12 hours of gameplay in the PU over the past few days. Rented ships can be used in the universe, so even if you only have a mustang i greatly reccomend renting a cutlass, it’s a good general purpose ship for both PU combat and hauling atm. Insurance claims are free for the time being so take advantage of that.
There’s a bunch of weird workarounds for some of the current problems so i’ll list a few common workarounds for anyone playing:
You can only rent one item at a time: You can rent multiple ships (but not weapons for now) by making sure you put in an insurance claim on the rented ship (rented ships work in the universe right now!) any period of time before renting another one.
Cant equip armor, weapons or etc: make sure to use long clicks when clicking the item you want. For some reason this works.
Flashlight permanently vanishes after removing space suit: use a long held click to switch helmets back and fourth (literally hold your mouse button down longer than normal, idk why this works but it does).
Cant QT, planet is in the way: look for the QT beacons around planets not on the starmap but in-game, you can QT to them to get to a different side of the planet for travel reasons.
Cant talk to delivery guy: go behind his counter and put your delivery in the nook “under the desk” where he would normally put it, and you can finish your mission without having to talk to him.
If you’re stuck EVA with no thrusters, use an emote like /sit in chat (F12 and enter) and it will fix you.

Interesting series and perspective, although I would prefer seeing some cited sources for the claims and information provided in a description, or on a dedicated site. Until such a reference is available I’ll take a seat of continued skepticism.
Over $150 million, missed dates, relevant and very salient points offered by DS, never ending shifts in direction, dubious marketing schemes, poor performance and no game to speak of…excuse our skepticism.
Is that skepticism productive, though?
The more pessimism that goes around reduces the probability that the game is released. And, if people want to risk donations to the game, then that’s their responsibility.
It’s not like it’s tax dollars we’re arguing about here. If you want to donate to this game, by all means, go for it. Obviously it’s well intentioned, otherwise there wouldn’t be so much effort put into it.
If it takes another 5 years and another 300 million and becomes the game to end all games, then fuck it, it was worth it.
If not? No skin off of your nose, and collectively, it’s really not much skin off of the noses of people who can afford to donate. At best, people should be given a warning that the donation is a risk.
Skepticism is more productive than a state of denial. Everyone should have all the facts and know what they are getting themselves into, especially when money is involved. Besides, there wasn’t a great deal of skepticism at the beginning but there sure is now - they earned that skepticism.
I guess it’s not skepticism, but it’s more like pessimism. I think a lot of people confuse concise skepticism and examination with a subjective feeling of sensibility, and then apply a sort of blanket pessimism rather quickly.
They definitely have some issues to address. They’ve got some really cool shit and they’ve done a huge amount of work, and have produced a lot, but they’re on a sort of funding paradox where they have to make their game more complex to attain more money.
Really, they should keep the stretch goals, but only release them after the game has been out for a while and use subscriber money to keep working on those.
Your reply is conclusive proof there’s no arguing with people who are in a deep state of denial. If you haven’t figured out you are being bamboozled by now then I have some digital land I would love to sell you.
I think the criticism of this game so far is mostly balanced and fair.
People cut them slack at every opportunity. Just looking at 3.0 one could argue that they completely and on purpose lied to their backers. They said the only reason 3.0 is delayed for a year was that it needed polish. Now look at what they released, it is utterly broken and a huge mess, basic combat isn’t even functional but people still act like they are honest and transparent.
Some people still claim that people are donating to this game but the fact is that selling digitial props on a webstore isn’t donating, it is just selling stuff. They even sell a digital currency that is used to ‘rent’ ingame items and ships for a limited time. Yes, for only 12 dollars you have the chance to try out a spaceship for one whole week in a very polished 3.0 game experience.
To me that is nuts, I honestly can’t comprehend how some people are okay with that.
Criticism can’t be balanced and fair when it’s based on incorrect information. Most of the recent critiques in this thread base a large portion of their criticism on outright fabrications. Just in this very post you’ve invented your main example. Who cares at this point, you don’t want to actually check if anything you’re saying is true, fine, whatever, im not your personal corrector, not going to spend all day pointing out why each element regurgitated off of DS’s blog isn’t accurate. Just be aware you’re only convincing other people who don’t know any better.
