I was looking for a Space Combat game I’ve seen a trailer of some years ago.

It is (or was) by a team of two guys.

The trailer contained Cockpit view of a fighter zipping between capital ships, shooting missiles (lots of explosions) with a lot of fog/dust in between. The graphic was pretty cool for it’s time and had an interesting lighting style. The fighter docked at a carrier and could modular re-equip itself.
Lots of fog … that was the most prominent part. And quite some interesting, deep minimalistic music in the background. I can remember it quite vividly but … names are always hard for me.

I saw the Video on their website where it was embedded in the middle of the screen. Can’t remember more. I tried looking trough a list of Space Games in development but didn’t find it.

Anyone an idea what it is/was called? Would like to see what happened with it.

Have no idea of the game you are talking about, but you might find it on this site:

A look at that … now there’s even a space capship MOBA comming up … looks like someone tries to capitalize on both booms, the space game and moba game boom

Even Adventure Time has a MOBA … what comes next?

I made a little video of me flying around in Elite:Dangerous using the Space Mouse Pro.

It also shows that no VR is needed for situational awerness. A mouse can do that too.

Is it really six degrees, with tilt and twist in addition to linear movement? I thought it was just 3 degrees when ive seen pictures before.

(i’d watch your video but discourse and my browser dont seem to agree on how to embed youtube links properly)

It is. The drawback is that, when using several axis at the same time, it can get hard to reach the absolute limit of some other axis. In sx2vjoy you cam configure non linearity to compensate for that, but I predere linearity and learned to live with the slight limitation and sometimes it’s actually usefull

http://youtu.be/XMeDExipHhU Here you go. At the end I dock. There you see it the best.

Ow, that constant mouselook is really disorienting, i think i’d prefer an oculus.

By “it can get hard to reach the absolute limit of some other axis.” Do you mean that force required increases or that, it actually limits the range of motion when twisted all the way due to some mechanical problem? because that would be a significant barrier for competetive space game use, but if it’s just stiffer you could adjust to it.

Actually been looking in to various potential control schemes like this for use in star citizen which has a lot more controls and axis than anyone is really used to. Check out this album for a laugh, someone had taped a mouse to the bottom of their joystick to be able to both control their ship, a hat, and turrets with the same hand. Maybe you could do the same with your 3d mouse thing, lomsor.

For something less silly i was thinking of using a joystick in my left hand and then a mouse in my right hand for star citizen. Joystick would control ship direction, the hat would be horizontal and vertical strafing, and the mouse would control turrets and stuff. Then maybe the mousewheel can be the throttle, or just go nuts and get some pedals for it too for forward and reverse strafing or throttle.

I can switch off the mouslook anytime. But I really really love it. Have you seen oculus videos? They are far more shaky in my opinion. When playing I felt pretty oriented most of the time.

To the limitation:
It means that when, for instance, I translate sideways at max, the resistance to also rotate around that axis is really high. The controller resist doing both. You can see this when I do turns: my speed drops sometimes because the y axis is triggered sometimes.
But I noticed that that’s a matter of practice. And the more I use it. The more I can push the limit in both translational and rotational axis simultaneously. Doing one at a time is no problem. Just those last 10% are a matter of fine control that needs to be trained.

They obviously had to compromise when designing it. Positive are the absolute zero deadzone, allowong for extremely precise actions, and the 6DOF in one device thing. I think HOTAS isn’t the right choice for space fighters. It isn’t airplanes in space after all.
The biggest advantage this has in ED is following: The optimal turn speed flight model. I can anytime adjust my speed down and, in the same motion, turn.

If you are still on the fence to back this:

You can now download a speedrun level and try it out! My face is off … but if I tilt my head back my eyes stay inside the sockets :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, yes!

I was wondering if that was still around! The [Simplified] version is the better one, as it was almost completely re-done as I recall. Soon, we’ll actually be able to test it! I’m looking forward to that!

This morning I woke up with an interesting image in my head; the differential form of electric potential.

I realized that for some amount of time I had been either balancing the equation or solving it(can’t remember exactly…dreams!) In my sleep. This is related to my first e&m exam due yesterday and I spent the last 3 days working on and thinking about nothing else. I’m not too surprised.

I hope I’m not the only lame person on the forums who has dreams(or nightmares depending on who you ask) of functions, formulas, work, etc in their sleep. Who else has had similar problems and have you ever solved any of your real life problems with these dreams! I know I definitely won’t forget the potential and how to solve for it after this morning!

Tldr: Nerds

When I was deep into random binary data compression I had dreams of perfect algorithms that solved my problem, one night I actually woke up in the middle of the night, and all sleeping with my eyes half closed implemented the perfect algorithm from my dream…

No, it didn’t work.

Nice find @Lomsor, I can’t believe some people wanted civilians to be treated like in civ (raise the city and with it kill 1mil people)…

After owning the Tyon for quite some time … (hmm scroll up … about six months) I came to a conclusion.

It just isn’t build for my style.
I really enjoy all the buttons. Especially in games like Elite it’s really nice to have them so close. They aren’t in the way ether.
It looks gorgeous and really holds up qualitatively better then the razer mice I owned in the past. The lights are nice too.

The main problem is that I’m used to feel the mousepad with my thumb when playing. Maybe even going as far as supporting parts of the weight of the mice with my hand (thumb and little finger).
I though, maybe, I can learn to do it differently, but after six months I have to say, no. My aim in CS and Insurgency is way off and a lot less precise and jutterish as it used to be. I like to play with really high dpi settings and instead of smooth motions the mouse sticks. Usually that’s where the weight relief part comes in.
I also noticed that my ring and middle finger got really tired after four hours of playing because theres a “sharp” edge on the right side of the mouse I have to constantly hold onto.

My first ever gaming mouse was the Razer Copperhead:

Very light, easy to lift up as I described above.

After that broke down, the Razer Mamba:

Same basic form … if not as pronounced and a lot heavier. Even without the battery.

Both wore out … broke, dirtied up, glue stoped working. But ergonomic. I still use the Mamba as my LAN mouse in the living room. The extra clicks don’t happen that often

Now compare that to this:

The Tyon doesn’t fit my hand. Probably has been designed for another grip style. Other then that it was ok, sadly that breaks the deal, as a mouse must be ergonomic for the user, if it isn’t I’m able to maybe use it at work or short intervals, But not if I’m trying to precisely put a virtual barel on a virtual head in split seconds for hours on end.

But I know what to look for now. Fingertip Grip seems to be my grip Style. Even though I knew of the different styles I didn’t think mine was so uncommon.
