I-Novae: Engine Screenshot Thread!

I am sorry. I know that you are male for many years, but English is not my best skill. I am more reader then writer and let you never hear how i am talking.

You know, at this point you’re just teasing us, @Hutchings – and I’m loving it…

i think i just had an eyegasm… the planet look so perfect with the clouds. can you show us some clouds from outer space in your next screenshot? don’t care if the clouds are experimental.

I was looking at these on my phone earlier, but that tiny screen does them no justice!

Looking at them now they just look fantastic. You boy’s have done a great job with this engine!!

Hype Intensity Intensifies

Looking at clouds from Outer space might have Z-fighting(depth) issues, though probably only noticeable in a video. But then again they have been reported for almost a decade with a promised fix, so no more excuses.

No, there would be no z-fighting. The problem with the current clouds is they are not volumetric, so they look good in screenshots from space and/or from the planet surface only. Flying through them is the issue, they are not the quality we would want for I:B.

Tell your friends, we’ll want a nice broad audience as we lead into our media ramp up / kickstarter

Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to let all of us upload the kickstarter video on our own Youtube channels. Each one of us might be able to get a couple hundred views, and that might translate to a few more Kickstarter backers.

That won’t really be necessary. I mean, coverage by a popular gaming entity will translate into hundreds of backers. I mean, sure i guess that would help too. But in a vid with a few hundred views, few people will like it, let alone do what you’re asking them to

I’ve been telling friends since 2008!

I showed my roommate and another friend the newest screenshots and they both thought they were real pictures…until I told them they weren’t.

You guys are doing a great job! Keep it up and don’t worry, I am telling everyone I know! And personally forcing them to back the KS whether or not they’ll play it(mac users).

Dat lighting. So beautiful.

Now, onto estabilishing the Colony, please? Would be cool if you actually built something there and took screenshots as it started to take form. Just throwing my 2 cents.

Subtropic climate. Would be too hot in summer.

Nice to hear the z-fighting isn’t an issue anymore, at least for the non volumentric clouds

Quite frankly though, having shitty clouds is better than no clouds. Like, really, you guys aren’t some big studio if you have “a version” of clouds you should put them in I:B if the alternative is nada.

I don’t see what that has to do with it.

People are not expecting AAA quality from you and you shouldn’t behave like a AAA studio?

Indies can get away with simplistic graphics, but not bad ones. If there are no clouds at all, that’ll be somewhat disappointing but “oh well, can’t expect AAA quality from indies”; bad clouds with a potentially negative impact on gameplay, meanwhile, can affect ragequitting.

How are you going to do a gas giant without clouds?

Seems you are going in the opposite direction to what my intended meaning was, I suspect INS would not put in “OK” clouds, that they would rather put proper volumetric ones as a stretch goal. My perspective is, put them in as long as they are not utter rubbish, something a AAA studio can’t do.

The way the devs are talking about the present clouds seems that they don’t have a good opinion of them, it’s something that’s not good enough to fly through, meaning they will not be used in IBS and proper clouds are a stretch goal. Looks like these clouds are there to fill an obvious gap that not having them leaves.

Being an indie comes with an understanding, they should use this.

Right now we have multiple layers of the “experimental” clouds. However, flying a ship through the atmo of a gas giant is a good way to (edit: implode, then) blow up the ship, not the case when seamlessly landing on an earth-like planet.

^^this, kind of, but not exactly. We have our own quality standards that we desire to adhere to.

I really can’t wait until we have volumetric clouds, mostly for the fact that this discussion can go away

You can’t afford to ensure everything is perfect before release, other people’s tech will advance faster than you can develop with such a small part time team. And people aren’t expecting it from you.
