The Gamescom presentations started so well and I was really impressed with what they were showing. It seemed the game was getting back on track and I was looking forward to a return in 2.2 especially because of module storage.
Then they ruined it by announcing instantaneous ship transfer. What better way to ruin the game's true to scale, galactic game world than making ships being summoned anywhere immediately.
For those unaware of the game's mechanics, ships are equipped with a certain module which is responsible for FTL, which comes in different sizes depending on each ship's role and size. The ship's mass is also taken into account when traveling between systems, and there are some other mechanics which you can use to increase how far a ship can jump. With this planned change, players will be able to get that one unique ship build which has the most range, travel with that ship to the nearest shipyard where they have business, then summon any other ship in their fleet there immediately. The only circumstance where this is not possible is when your ship carries cargo, because you cannot leave a ship with cargo in it. As long as your hold is empty though, apparently you will be able to teleport any ship anywhere.
