Inovae aren’t really doing atmospheres “properly” (yet)…they don’t do clouds, weather and such. What you are mostly referring too is atmospheric scattering which isn’t really unique. Don’t get me wrong…it certainly looks nice, but it’s not really that big of a deal to add in the grand scheme of things. Elite already have some really nice looking atmospheric scattering going on when flying close to atmospheric planets…
It wouldn’t surprise me if that even works down on the ground in their internal builds…but as they have said…they want to do it properly and that means clouds, weather, storms, liquid bodies and rivers, wildlife, vegetation and of course gameplay around these…these are the real challenges which is why we’ll have to nicely wait for them to get it done. And here I’m not even touching on making the cities that can be seen in the second screenshot above with everything that means…:
The gameworld isn’t instanced in Elite (within a solar system)…the network connection between players are. All of the star system environment is one big space. So there is no difference there compared to Inovae. What Inovae are doing differently in Battlescape is that they are making the entire solar system one single big"instance" which means that players don’t have to switch to different “bubbles” to connect to each other…the reasons for why Elite is using a different approach are many and beyond this discussion.
Pretty impressive.
But that zoomout of the moon looks somehow super fake, there’s something about the lighting of that moon that makes it look paper and super super flat when you zoom out even a little bit.
The fact that stars are fully visible even with the planet being there is also weird.
Don’t get me wrong it’s impressive but for a planet as simple as the lava one in infinity this one really looks somehow super cheap by comparison.
EDIT: It also looks very Kerbal upclose for some reason.
The thing Elite should redo or tweak if possible, is give the stars more brightness.
The system star should outshine the background stars for a fair radius.
Well im really dissapointed from E:D i whish i could get back my 400 bucks from them. As they said they can only have max 32 players in an instance i should have stopped my kickstarter support… and the ships, the stations… everything looks really ugly for me
Many members of this this community are members of ED’s community. I’ve bought and paid for ED and so has Marcel. Everyone is entitles to their opinion.
Elite promised a lot more than what it currently has to offer…along with a poor implementation of what it does offer doesn’t really lead to any sort of gameplay longevity for me. I bought it in the hopes that it would hold me over until infinity and it sort of has. I still want my Newtonian mechanics and actual balanced weapons/ships.
The more expensive is better kills the game for me. Its one part about Eve that is close to perfect for me.
That’s of course my opinion and you are welcome to disagree.
I think you are right that the potential for ED has not been lived up to at all really. There is still nothing about the game that gets me attached emotionally to anything that is going on, which is what I thought they would do to make it an improvement over previous Elite games. What I’m still waiting for is proper role-playing style interaction with NPCs. NPCs with history and connections and stories to learn about and get me immersed in the world.
Jeah, thx i see that not as any offense. this is only my personal opinion from what i have seen to me. maybe my posts look a bit offensive at all, but i think that is only my bad english (sorry).
They have to don’t they. Even the moon has a atmosphere, and I’m going to take a very broad guess here that every large body is likely to have some sort of atmosphere.Pluto has one.
