So beautiful, it reminds me of the Stargate…
Goldeneye HUD FTW
Have to say, that HUD looks a lot tidier.
looks like some sort of space war
I agree, some sort of combat scene…a battle-scape even

Is there a reason why NPCs always fight around space station and never near land bases (except when there is a player to harass there)?
I wanted to test some of the new weapons in Atmosphere and asked Flavien about the topic:

@ INovaeFlavien Yesterday I saw, what I think was NPCs spawning in in a sphere arround a Station. Was that you or Automated?
I would like to test some more atmospheric combat. Is it possible to have NPCs spawn near them. Maybe manual?
INovaeFlavien - Last Monday at 8:35 PM
npcs spawn automatically around battledfields
every 15 mins there’s a sudden increase in credits per team
which causes npcs tos spawn in numbers
Lomsor - Last Monday at 8:35 PM
Oh ok. So if I manage to get a Battle in Atmosphere going the same will happen down here?
INovaeFlavien - Last Monday at 8:36 PM
hmm the base would have to be under attack
but the pb on planets is that half of the npcs spawn under ground and get killed instantly

Thanks for the Info. I’ll try to get something going.(edited)

I saw a medium battle once
but I can’t say that’s too frequent

Been sitting at a Base for quite some while. Nobody came to Visit.
Don’t know the answer to your specific question though.
I’ll try to get a battle going down near a base when there’s some players arround. Maybe with players from all three teams arround it might nudge the NPCs to spawn there. Another idea is to bring a capital … maybe that works as bait.
I’m working on that for the next patch, as I want to increase the variety of the locations where battles take place.
It seems like the AI commander takes a high priority over existing battles and does not start fights around other locations unless there’s a conjonction of certain events ( sudden influx of credits to spend, around every 15 mins ). Will improve that behavior in the next patch.
Even if a battle gets going on around a ground base, if there’s a more important battle in a space station somewhere else, the AI commander will spend all its credits in that battle. I’m also fixing that as I speak, where commanders spend credits in ratio of the strategical importance of the point of interest nearing each battle
Glimmerfall ( the giant asteroid ) has the highest strategical importance right now - so in next patch you can expect some pretty large battles around it.
It sounds like you’re putting effort into the AI above and beyond the level needed for load testing and such. How far are you going to take it? Should we expect a PvE version of Battlescape?
We’ll see, but it’s unlikely to ever be a too advanced AI - we don’t have the resources to this.
However I think there’s some merit into having this AI, both for performance / bandwidth stressing purposes, but also to keep the low number of players interested in the game before ( after ? ) the launch. Right now, if there was no bots and no other online player… you’d have nothing to do, but fly around to explore the solar system, which is ok for an hour or two for the first time you discover the game.
With bots and battles going around, it’s possible to test gameplay, including weapons and how ships behave in a larger battles. There’s no way we could have tested that until the game’s release without the bots…
It was fun for me for at least the first week or two, not hours. Probably more like the first couple of months actually, but I understand what you’re saying. I think I speak for everyone on that note.
The Corvette feels really heavy now, I personally like the change, it makes bombers and interceptors harder to track down and kill when the start to run.
A nice powered down shot hovering within a station above cinder, a beautiful moment to be sure.
If I fits, I sits.
