Totally agree, it probably helped that ep V and VI weren’t directed by Lucas so he could focus on the universe.
On the other hand, the one thing Lucas did get right with the prequel trilogy was the lightsaber battles.
Opinions may differ on that last point…

Sure there was a lot of flourishes, but the Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen did their own lightsaber fights (actually, all the actors, except Yoda obviously, did in Ep3), and they’re pretty proficient with their swords.
I think my favorite duel so far was Kylo Ren vs. Luke because it’s a lot more realistic, even though it was just an illusion.
It was careful, realistic pacing, and not this flurry of constant attacks that really just doesn’t work.
