You’re missing the point. These are supposed to be packages that illicit a reaction from the players because of the complete set. They want the Talon package because it says “I’m going to play an interceptor, so I want the interceptor upgrade.” It’s a cosmetic, like a skin, but it covers many areas, both public and private. Heck, throw in a different shade of lighting on the controls in the cockpit. Not public, but part of the effect.
Edit: And it occurs to me that everything in a game is public, including the HUD. Players aren’t going to show it off in-game, but they’ll show it off in YouTube videos, Twitch sessions or whatever other social media they use.
That was exactly the point. The mil spec marks don’t give the player an advantage, but they sure do look better if you’ve got the mindset of a precision shooter. It builds the ambiance of a lethal interceptor.
You do have a point. Although it’s only an option, you must continue to beware not to offer too many options in where potential pledgers get overwhelmed, which could for some who don’t know of INS tech, be enough for them to turn away and not send any money at all. It’s like the saying “quality over quantity”. In this case, the matter of options being the subject. With this said, I believe additional HUD options added into tiers would be a fun and interesting option to be had.
Now that would be really cool!
You nailed that one!
I assumed so since we are talking about backer rewards - which generally aren’t rewarded to players outside of the kickstarter. Otherwise, why would I back that tier if I could just get it in game normally? Note: I am trying to play devils advocate - personally I’ll pledge as much as I can afford at the moment regardless of skins/huds/blah.
It took me a moment to realize that was a Photoshop operation… for a moment I assumed someone leaked our Braben and Roberts ship decals somehow… good thing it’s not legit
(Also a Joke !!!)Leaving the thread he murmurs to himself… that was a close one, I hope they never find this thread…
I would literally drop a thousand just to be able to make 1 random asteroid of my choosing a googly eye asteroid.
Edit: Hell, sell asteroid painter, With semi-limited/unlimited choice on what you paint onto it. Although beware the porn that will inevitably happen if you don’t force a selection of stuff to be painted.
Along with the concept of unique weapon particle effects, perhaps a unique re-entry effect. For example, your ship resembles a giant flaming phoenix while transiting the atmosphere.
Holy crap, someone start working on merchandising deals.
You joke, but if the game ever launches with a googly eyed asteroid in it, I’d buy a real-life plushy, and shirts, and start wondering “There’s a googly eyed poop emoji, so where’s my googly eyed asteroid emoji?”
Here’s a few ideas i took from other games. Planetside 2 has some good examples for KS-only rewards.
Instead of offering entire exclusive ships as rewards why not special “armor” or “skins”? Lets say you have a Cruiser you get in game. You can also get a Fancy Cruiser in game by winning really well. The KS exclusive will have a variation on the Fancy Cruiser that has golden plating instead of the normal one. It would be very shiny and obvious that this guy is “awesome!” and bought the KS exclusive noone else can get now. You would be changing a single shader on a ship to match a gold material (i guess it might be more complicated than that).
Similar to the above, there could be weapon categories (all lasers for example) that could have a KS-exclusive visual and sonic variation. For example it could be a white-colour laser with a unique distinct sound (white lasers only available to NPCs and KS-backers).
Ship trails. Unique trails for all your ships. Make them look like a waterfall or simply glowy plasma.
In-game pets just like in WoW. Might sound stupid but A LOT of people are obsessed with these kinds of things. This would be a cute little bot following your ship and doesn’t interact with anything. They would sometimes fly in front of your ship when you’re not in combat and do something funny like wiping your cockpit glass with a napkin. Here’s a few examples:
Engine sounds. Simply a different set of “awesome” sounds for your spaceships. Maybe something resembling a Formula 1 car engine sound, a helicopter or a steam engine or something silly or cool.
Decals. Pretty easy one, exclusive KS-only decals for your ships.
PTS access. Access to the test server after the game launches for a sneakpeak at new features and help test/feedback. Not sure how useful this would be but it’s something.
Merchandising deal for battlescape-themed clothing offered as a reward for backers only such as shirts, hats, coats, etc…
That could work, if you had some sort of kill replay, showing how you died from the enemy’s perspective while you wait to respawn. Then again, that has the potential to induce RAGE! if someone starts being an idiot with what he writes. So it might be better to keep it limited to preset things (don’t give players the ability to change it to whatever they want or paint their ships however they want (on official servers, at least), but do give them the ability to ask a dev to change their custom decorations or to buy approved skins or something similar).
