Rough draft #2 of our Kickstarter reward tiers

I couldn’t figure out if Kickstarter allows pledging multiple times. If not, then allowing people to pledge for 2, 4 and 6 packs of copies of the game would make sense. I would give them a bronze badge with 2, 4 or 6 stars on it, like the stars on service ribbons.

During my research, I hit a page observing that a limited number of reward tiers is a good idea. You’ve got 12 and I’m lobbying for three more. You might want to review the tiers and come up with some unifying approach so that people can understand at a glance what the backer levels are. As before, I think you’re missing a level of intimacy with the backers. The list reads more like a “Give us this and we’ll give you that” menu.

You’ve got Bronze, Silver and Gold badges. That’s a great start and should form the core of the backer structure. Just build out from there. Include a Platinum badge and then throw in some badge-related concepts for the stuff that piles onto the base badges. So the badges are not just thrown in for decoration, but are the backbone of your awards. For example,

Steel Supporters

Bronze Supporters

.2.
3.
4.

Silver Supporters

Gold Supporters

Platinum Supporters

Stellar Supporters

Given the “Stellar Supporters” mention, consider what folks brought up before, of not using an obvious hierarchy of metals/medals and instead go with some kind of astronomical terms. How about Nebula, Quasar, Comet and Black Hole? Or Asteroid, Moon, Planet, Star?

Yeah. Totally forgot about that too. I strongly agree and hope you won’t hold onto the “metals of increasing value” scheme. It’s also overused in games and indicates lack of imagination.

Ok then, Hydrogen, Carbon, Water, Ethylene, Acetylene…

What is the logic behind this ? EDIT : Oh I see !

I’d say “Hydrogen, Helium, Carbon, Neon and Oxygen”

Some Kickstarters use things like BackerKit to help manage pledge add-ons and upgrades. You could use something like that, or run a post-Kickstarter funding drive on the website (though that way lies danger).

I’ve read the name BackerKit but haven’t looked into it, to be frank ^^’ I guess whatever helps during kickstarter, that doesn’t cost too much is good?

subsurfacegames also continued selling preorders of their zombie survival game after kickstarter succesfully ended. Not a funding drive but more of a preorder thing with instant access to different features based on the price you chose for your preorder… Might be interesting to talk about the cons and pros of that too somewhere in the near future.

How about a “refer a friend” system?
Ok, you’re not into making anything like multipack, but what about giving those who bring you extra backers some gratitude?

Upgrading the forum badge, getting a special one depending of their patronnage counter …

What do I have to do to unlock the bearded googly eyed asteroid badge?

I’ll do anything…I’m committed to proudly and shamelessly displaying it

This was used in SC’s campaign. I believe there was a competition associated with it. Win a graphics card or joystick.
Speaking of that, has there been any interest from third party PC hardware companies to do any promotional competitions?

I want a space wale decal on my ship!
I want three copies, how difficult is this going to be?
Vacation got expensive when pet decided to injure it’s self. >:/

I’m ok with no multipacks. It increases the vallue of the game, and that’s something worth nowadays where a lot of games are sold in large quantities and cheap.
If someone likes to buy a gift, I-Novae should set up a shop after the Kickstarter

You could have ‘add-ons’. You instruct the backer to add the appropriate amount to their pledge and then after the campaign you email those who pledged more than their selected tier asking them to complete a form to choose which addons, if any, they wanted.

“Add $20 for each additional copy of the finished game (only available at pledge level 3 or above)”
“Add $50 for each additional beta access (only available at pledge level 5 or above)”
“Add $85 for each additional alpha access (only available at pledge level 6 or above)”

“Addons only include access to the game. Forum access & badges and in-game rewards are not included.”

With the prices being the non-early bird prices and not including decals etc, that encourages friends to back it for themselves rather than accepting the gift. The original backer can always reduce their pledge if their friends end up backing it for themselves.

That would yield 25 additional coppies I could redeem if I wanted to with the pledge I’m currently planning to make …
I don’t know. I would like to hear the main reason I-Novae decided against it.
Also on what pricing strategy they decided on. Will the price of the base game be more on release? Less? Clear is that early access cost more, and that’s clear from the pledge tiers and fine.

If you wanted 25 additional copies, you’d have to pledge $500 extra on top of whatever tier you want for yourself.

I’ll probably choose the $250 (£163) tier. If I wanted to get 2 additional copies at the beta access level, I’d have to pledge $350 in total. ($250 for my tier + 2 x $50 for the add ons)

Lastly the first 5 backers at this reward tier will be given the opportunity to name a planet in the Battlescape solar system.

Maybe you should add that the name has to fit the tone of the game, I don’t want to land on DickPlanet69.

It just happens to be that way the tiers are structured. My main reason to pledge is to support this project. I decided how much I was willing to support without taking into consideration what I get in return. I’m just pointing out that, witht this draft and your additional game key system I would happen to have access to 25 additional coppies.
And this brought me to point out that they will probably never be able to ask for anything more then 20$ after the Kickstarter because the market could be flooded with keys.

Every major digital distributor limits the ammount of keys an individual can order. Just pointing that out.

We will have the standard “dev approved” disclaimer for stuff where backers have input such as naming things.

So we won’t be able to name things like planets and ships whatever we want? Why?
What could possibly go wrong?

Get on xbox live and play Call of Duty… that’s what can go wrong.
