Libel is nearly impossible to prove in the US where the lawsuit would be taking place (for good reason, freedom to be wrong and all that), so whether or not they’ve sued them is more a measure of whether or not they can prove monetary damages. Fortunately (unfortunately?) for dsmart i dont think his nonsense has slowed down the sc funding train enough for that.

Really awesome animations
Yeah, i remember a couple of very cool supposed preview tech animations, from 3, 2 years ago, and last year, yet none of that is in game and based on the history of this project, none of these awesome demos are probably going to ever make it into the actual, forever, pre-alpha, such a pity.
Interestingly the PTU Discord server was shut down today until further notice.

Nope, libel isn’t just about financial damage - it’s also about damaging ones good name. And the only people who don’t think CR’s reputation isn’t being damaged by DS are obsessed fans. .What’s more, the only way SC can now stay afloat is by selling ships. Besides, if DS isn’t doing damage to CR’s reputation then why did they ban him from their site? Clearly it’s about transparency and the last thing CR wants is supporters finding out DS’s sources are real.
I think that’s Slander rather than Libel then, Zen.

Before I look at it, are they talking about anything other than 2.6?
Because I’m not interested in CIG’s fairytales, I’m interested in finding out if they’re actually going to do anything in the next year worth me paying attention to.
It’s all cool and all, them showing what they’re working on, but how do we know any of that is going to survive as they’re demoing it when they’ve still failed to release 2.6
That man is so bitter its tragic. One would think a fellow games developer would be pleased at another’s success but not Smarticus.
He has shown consistently that his reach never exceeds his grasp. He has an idea of what he wants but it is firmly lodged in the past and doesn’t even have the technology to be able to achieve what others have done 5-10 years ago. He is a developer who always seems to be writing for some past audience that has come and gone and instead of trying to up his “game” he tries desperately to drag others down to his level.
As I say, tragic.
Full disclosure time. I hail from the Usenet days of the great flame wars, when Bill Huffman and DS locked horns, there were arguments about fake diplomas and tales of THAT Coke machine. I was even personally “plonked” by DS for some reason or other. It will be on Google groups somewhere I guess.

CR has been selling the dream of the biggest, most complex game the industry has probably ever seen.
If you’re not immediately massively sceptical, you’re doing it wrong.
Yes, I’ve given CIG/RSI money, but I manage my expectations, and as long as I get a reasonable game for that money I’m fine. Doesn’t mean I have to believe their bullshit though

What would he be right about?
- His false prediction that CIG will run out of money and close end of 2015?
- His lie that he initiated legal action against CIG in August 2015?
- His lunatic theory that CIG is connected to the Swedish Mafia?
People sometimes seem to forget the amount of crazy he has spat out already.
Over the course of 15 months Derek Smart has written far more than 100,000 words on Star Citizen in his blogs alone, longer than the novel War and Peace. He excretes between 20 and 200 tweets a day, predominantly bullshit about Star Citizen. In between Derek still found the time to write 500 anti Star Citizen posts on the Frontier forums.
He likes to quote his old blogs in his new blogs to deceive casual readers into thinking he has actual references. He hedges his ramblings with “Word is…”; “As the story goes…” or “Sources say…” without providing any.
He calls Star Citizen a scam at every opportunity while denying he ever said it’s a scam.
If he is right about anything in all his vomit, it seeped in by pure accident.

For sure, if you’re immediately massively skeptical, you’re doing it easy. Like if it could be a systematic rule : "if somebody wants to be the best, you should be massively skeptical, immediately, without thinking. It sounds like a stupid religion.
Descartes wrote something interesting about the “scandalous doubt of the skepticals”. You should read it, or read an analysis of it like in “17° siècle” of Sylvia Giocanti, about the difference between the “Cartesian doubt” and the “skeptical doubt” that you perfectly illustrated, driving you in the intellectual wandering…
Everybody here doubts about CR, SC & co, but not about DS claims, about his mysterious sources,etc… again, so easy to criticize…
OMG he told that he would like to see this on game but it’s not => He’s a liar ! … no you’re just facing a developer that choose to share with you the “behind the scenes” of every fucking big game…

IF SC releases without chris escaping to mexico or CIG being sued for racist hiring practices DS will have been wrong about SC. There’s a divide between healthy skepticism and what that guy spews.

Of course, he spouts a lot of bullshit. The reason people listen to him is because he also litters said bullshit with truths and half-truths.
I didn’t say “without thinking.” You start from a position of scepticism (especially with large and bold claims such as those often made by CR (and others like him), and then you build confidence when the ability to deliver is demonstrated. CIG has been very poor, in my view, in delivering, despite having a massive development team and a record budget for a crowdfunded project. In addition to that, their continued funding stream makes me further sceptical about CIG’s ability to cost the work they’ve undertaken, and also leaves me highly sceptical about their ability to sustain an MMO-type game at the end of development.
Believing in shit without evidence is religious behaviour, not scepticism

Using ‘Derek Smart said it’ as an argument against any worry someone has with Star Citizen is a bit like pointing to a broken clock and saying the time couldn’t possibly be what it says.
Are you really surprised that 130M$ is maybe not enough for what he tries to build ? GTA5 + Online was built with a 225M$ budget, and CR is trying to make something comparable. From CR pov, a delay on SQ42 or SC build delivery, is probably always a bad news, because it means more budget needed to pay and maintain studios alive.
DS is just jealous, how could you not see that?? Of course, with 24 hours per day spreading shit on SC, he can be right a few times. CR is the man DS dreamt to be all his life, and because for him, build the best MMO space game is impossible, he wants it to be impossible in the universe… and you guys are just being trapped by your own fears of the possible game success/fail.
