Q. Who is elligible to play during this pre-alpha test week-end ?
A. All Kickstarter or IndieGoGo alpha-level (or higher) backers are elligible to play during this week-end.
We will grant access to alpha+ level backers on Friday, January 27th at 2 PM EST (8 PM CET), until Monday, January 30th 2 PM EST.
Q. I’m not an alpha backer, but I’d like to pledge or upgrade for this test, is that possible ?
If you are a first time backer, you can make a Planetary Supporter pledge on IndieGoGo:
If you’re already a backer you can upgrade your existing pledge by visiting your products page:
This requires a valid I-Novae account already linked to your backer’s e-mail. See the account linking question below for instructions.
Note that it can take a little while (an hour or two) until our systems get notified by a new pledge and we can update your access.
Q. Do I need an I-Novae account to play ? What if I don’t have one yet ?
A. Yes, an I-Novae account is mandatory. Register at https://inovaestudios.com/ (top-right of the page) if you don’t have one yet. Make sure you use the same e-mail address than the one you used to pledge on Kickstarter or IndieGoGo.
Q. I have an I-Novae account now. How can I see if I have access to this test ?
A. You can check your current access on this page, which requires you to be logged in to your I-Novae account:
If you haven’t pledged higher than alpha level, your access will show up as negative until Friday once we open the test.
Q. I have an I-Novae account but I used a different e-mail address to create it, how do I link my account to Kickstarter/IndieGoGo’s ?
Do not change your current account’s e-mail, as this feature is currently unsupported. Instead you should add your backer’s email to your account via this link:
Once your new e-mail is linked to your account, if it matches your Kickstarter/IndieGoGo’s (make sure it’s a perfect copy/paste without typos), you should see your access level and pledges here:
Q. Once the pre-alpha test starts this week-end, what do I need to do to download and access the game ?
A. You can download the I-Novae Installer from the download link at:
or at the top of the Battlescape site:
This will install the I-Novae installer. Follow the procedure, then execute it. Enter your I-Novae account credentials, then install Battlescape’s pre-alpha (the download is 1.6 GB).
Once the game is installed, the “Play” button should appear on the bottom-left. Click on it, change your startup settings if needed and you’re ready to go !
Q. The I-Novae installer, or the game (once logged in to the launcher) fails to install. What should I do ?
A. We will monitor trouble on Discord or the official forums (https://forums.inovaestudios.com/) as frequently as possible. For installer issues, please report your problem and attach log files located here:
C:\Users\You\AppData\Local\Temp. They begin with INovaeInstaller_*.log
You can also send us an e-mail at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Q. I’ve installed the game in the launcher, but the “Play” button isn’t available.
A. Sorry for the inconvenience; remember the game is pre-alpha, so the server might be too busy, down or under maintenance. Check out the forums if other people are having issues (https://forums.inovaestudios.com/) and try again later.
Q. I’ve launched the game but it is taking forever to load.
A. This is normal, especially the first time you run the game as it needs to cache some data. It could take up to 5 minutes to load. We haven’t optimized the preloading stage yet, but this will be addressed in a future patch.
Q. The game is crashing a little while after I’ve launched it.
A. Please report the problem on our forums or by e-mail at email@example.com, including log files located at:
Q. The game runs very slow.
A. Make sure your system is above the minimum specifications. We recommand a 3.6 Ghz+ cpu, at least 8 GB of RAM and an NVidia GTX 970 or above (or AMD equivalent). This should allow you to play at “High” settings in 1080p at ~60 fps.
Don’t forget to update your video card drivers (http://www.geforce.com/drivers or http://support.amd.com/en-us/download) if you haven’t done so in a while.
If your system isn’t very powerful reduce your graphical settings or the resolution in the game launcher dialog until you find an acceptable setting.
If your system matches or is higher than the recommanded specifications, but seems to run abnormaly slow, please report the problem on our forums or by e-mail including the game’s log files (see previous question above for instructions).
Q. Are there instructions on how to play ?
A. The access page contains some information about game systems and controls. You need to have access to the game to see all the information:
Keep in mind this is a pre-alpha. Texturing hasn’t started yet (most models are untextured or have place-holders). There’s no real gameplay yet; it’s just sandbox (people flying around, exploring or shooting at each other).
You can explore a mini-solar system (a gas giant, 3 planets/moons and a dozen of space-stations/ground installations).
Q. How can I chat or communicate with other players in game ?
There’s no way to chat in game as we haven’t implemented the GUI yet, however you can join our friendly Discord community to meet other players:
