Paypal with Kickstarter (and other payment problems)

I’d say something like ā€œPaypal funding?ā€ or ā€œAlternate funding methods?ā€ or ā€œPledging through paypal?ā€ might convey the message in a quick and concise manner. Then again, I’m not a native English speaker so there might be something better.

EDIT:

Oh, good, thanks, that’s much better.

I backed from the UK so expect to get hit with two bank charges if its amazon payments processing KS pledges. Being in $ dollars the pledges will be subject to a bank related currency conversion. This always seems to work out cheaper with Paypal

When I first backed Star Citizen I mistakenly used amazon payments the first time and got hit with two charges from my bank, one processing fee £2 and another currency conversion £2. From then on it was Paypal.

Sometimes i am not that …imaginative when it comes to choosing the right title, thanks.

Don’t worry but it was actually several of us that changed it at the same time

Kickstarter no longer uses Amazon payments. They now use Stripe. I have no idea if that will change whether or not you get double charged =(.

I think it comes down to if KS allows you pay in Ā£ and not $, which is does not. Paying in $ from the UK with a debit card will usually incur some bank fees for either processing or conversion at the banks rate. I’m not sure about credit cards.

I have the same problem. Im german and I simply dont need a credit card, so I dont have one.
So far, this has not been a problem with gaming kickstarters for me, because they most often provide a paypal payment option on their own website - and in my mind, this is the standard approach to funding (Own website with paypal plus kickstarter).

I think when it was Amazon Payments, Amazon detected your country and did the conversion for you. I don’t know how it works with Stripe now though.

After watching infinity footage yesterday the entire afternoon and most of the night, 3 hours of sleep and the workday today, i have spent a good chunk of the evening looking for virtual/prepaid/single use credit cards that do not suck and are accepted by Kickstarter. No luck so far. This would be so much easyer if bloody Kickstarter would accept PayPal or would not limit SEPA payments to be used for German Kickstarter projects only. At least there is still enough time to keep looking…

Oh i see the reason i could not pledge to anything before was amazon… right… why am i not surprised.

funnily enough, paypal also offers a prepaid creditcard…
If you happen to be a fully recognized american citizen (aka dont live in us territories)

So, here we are, 4 years later. One of the few kickstarted games to be actually released. I’m glad !

However, I’m sad to see there is still no other payment option than CC. Will this ever change ?

Probably eventually, unfortunately integrating payment solutions is a lot of work. Which alternative payment methods are you most interested in?

Personally I like Giropay but since that is probably more a german/european thing (?) Paypal would still cover most of the userbase.

We actually support Giropay but it’s currently disabled because my understanding is that it can take days for a transaction to clear, is that true?

I never heard of this. The money is withdrawn instantly, but of course I cannot confirm how that looks on the sellers end. There are quite a few big business offering giropay that I know of though, all of them only accept upfront payment and giropay seems to fulfill their needs.

Alright I’ll look into this. The implementation work has already been done, I disabled it because I didn’t want to be in a situation where someone made a pledge/purchase and then had to wait up to 3 days before they could actually play the game and began sending us ā€œwtfā€ emails.

Nah, that’s not how it works  It’s just another instant payment method.

What is your stance on PayPal, though ? Just one random forum guy mentioning Giropay surely can not be sole driving factor of your your payment considerations ?

It’s just a coincidence we already have GiroPay implemented and it’s merely disabled atm. For PayPal I would have to do a completely new integration and while we do have a fair number of people asking for it, the vast majority of them seem to be German for some reason, it will take a lot of time and testing so it’s going to be a while before I can get to it.
