Time will tell. Currently I doubt a lot that we'll see much more content for NMS, there is no reason for Sony to push it anymore. The money is payed, the name of the game and Hello Games is burned as hell, and the player community has gone. Every new purchaser will stumble across a major negative rating on steam. There might be better investments or brands for Sony.
Personally I feel bad for Josh as he has/had a nice dream and goal, and due to the illness he faced, and I agree to you JB47394 and Topperfalkon.
But, I think he can be accused of having taken 190.000 USD esp. compared to I:BS and having completely shut down communication to the people on kickstarter for a very very long time. The LT forum is full of speculation what he might be doing or not iat all, and very very few posts in his forum here and there by him from time to time. In fact his last kickstarter update is nearby 1 1/2 years old.
If he doesnt want to touch public personally , e.g. due to his problems, is understandable, however he can simply have someone do that for him. Being naive in the youth, fair enough, we all were. But, hiding is never a good solution, especially if you were payed that lot of money. Even simply saying "Sorry, I need to delay because of A,B,C, I even dont know for how long" is better than fill-with-nothing. Calling this behavior naive is IMHO not fair to the people that payed. If you call it fraud is a philosophic discussion and for sure (!) he didnt intended this so it might be the wrong word yes. But even if you had good intentions, you don't take money and disappear.
I also hope he finds the moment to jump on the train again in the future depending if he really is able to do it (I have that feeling he got lost in complexity) before it ends worse for his health which should be most important or him losing more time of his life - or simply and officially call it a day, there is nothing wrong with it.
