Have you seen a spare jaw around? I’ve lost mine…
These are my new favourites too! The volcanic textures and general haze are looking really excellent. It’ll look even better when clouds are eventually implemented…!
I think I have a new desktop wallpaper.
Are there plans for types of planet having particular effects on the player? It was mentioned earlier about possible melting if landing on lava! Maybe not that specific example, but it would be cool to have some effect to watch out for.
Yes but the full extent of it is still TBD.
The Floor Is Lava on a planetary scale
That’s excellent, really truly excellent! I need to get me a volcanic planet to build my dark fortress ASAP now.
Ok, so I added some of the recent screenshots to a nice little Imgur gallery. Head on over there, have a read and a look at the shiny images, and then share it… come on now… you know others need to see these… we must summon new people!
Shared that gallery on the infinity subreddit, a massive 200 subscribers on there.
In many cases there is nothing as beautiful as desolation.
Nothing as magnificent, you mean.
Yeah, I sometimes forget that the only one I know who finds beauty in all magnificent desolation is myself. Even if I lived in Death Valley I probably wouldn’t get enough of it.
I prefer my deserts a bit sandier, (you know, for a little variety) but otherwise, I’m in perfect agreement.
I believe the word you’re looking for is awesome.
i t sounds mean when i say it out loud
can the engine only change an surface with texture effects ?
all i have see now is the are no real plants or something,no real liquits
this fake lava here is only an glowing texture effect,i dont think we see an 3d mass that move slowly trough the rifts of the land masses… i mean everytime i land on planets i discover an different texture not really something that breath or move or something else
at this point the simple comic look of generated planets in “no men sky” look 5 times more interesting to land and explore on.
the asteroids fields of Everspace looks more interesting than what this engine here is capable of
i think the engine is big and has a nice performance but a huge lack of little details and quality when it comes to generated stuff.
i hope you dont stark the kickstarter campain to soon.
Seeing this a couple of days late makes no changes to how awesome they are. I like the first! It puts off a Marsish feel with less oxidation of the soil. I think it’s the Bluish sunset that I’m imagining.
No, the engine is capable of a lot more than that. You actually need the art assets to place, however, before the engine can place them.
No worries, it doesn’t sound too bad out loud, I’ll address your concern
Animated oceans have been shown in past screenshots and some videos… I’ve yet to make some gifs… waiting on the ocean rendering fix The same ocean system applies to open lakes of lava.
The recent volcanic screenshots are showing off the current volcanic texture pack (technically only 2 textures from that pack) and are being displayed on a planet not originally intended to be volcanic.
As for surface objects, grass, rocks, trees, clouds etc… we’re not focusing on these yet, but they technically have limited functionality in the engine.
Don’t expect them to be included in the prototype, or in the final title Infinity: Battlescape though, unless we find the resources to complete them to a satisfactory quality.
They do add interest, and a sense of real scale to the planet surfaces though, especially bringing to life terrestrial / gaian worlds.
While fluid simulation for volcanic flow would be really awesome, it’s not a practical solution for us at this time for many reasons, and I doubt it would ever be implemented, although @INovaeKeith or @INovaeFlavien could give you a better answer.
To conclude. Our focus is on developing the core engine features and gameplay mechanics that Battlescape will require.
We won’t launch the campaign until we feel it’s ready… personally… I fear my beard won’t get big enough… … …
This is the best thing I’ve heard in awhile! I need to stop spending my KS stash on silly things like food…I need to invest in more ramen and rice…
Remember, Infinity is going for a more realistic look then NMS, and has lot less (if any) organic features because of it. Just like our universe.
Look at pictures from Mars for example: Only barren rock(s), but very scenic nonetheless. Imagine scenes like that as backdrop for epic ground-to-space battles.
Yeah, that’s going to be epic.
