I-Novae: Engine Screenshot Thread!

I’ll be honest. At this point the gfxs are fine. I just want a functioning game that works well. So many games that have come out recently look great, but perform like crap and I for one am just tired of it. Give me a game that works and is fun. Gfxs are a secondary concern.

Pretty much this.

I could have sworn you were told not to do more sunset shots :stuck_out_tongue:

Not that I’m complaining.

@Topperfalkon, I know… I try not to, but I can’t help it… I admit I have a problem…

There there, we’re all here for you.

Maybe it’s an exception due to the ship that’s landed. I don’t mind it either

It is unique compared to the previous shots we’ve had as well.

Maybe the next few weeks can feature mountain top vistas or beaches or some other geographical feature to show off the terrain generation?

If you hadn’t seen it before, the martian pictures of the Rover have been altered and used in this epic video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6goNzXrmFs

There are a few things I’d like to show that are waiting on various bug fixes / improvements, but that’s an idea I can add to the list. Perhaps with a different ship this time.

I’d quite like to see some daytime water reflections personally

Not sure how long I’ll have to wait for that though…

Jetwash of a ship hovering over the ocean + reflections(during a sunset ofc)?

Yes please!

A trio of ships in triangle formation coming straight at the camera. Flying over water at low level with the star behind the lead ship. Need not be sunset.

Variation: sun overhead with reflected glare coming off lead ship

Variation: four ships in fingertip formation.

Variation: star off-center and visually balanced by a moon or planet.

Variation: hauler with pair of fighters escorting. Hauler center frame, both fighters off to one side, balanced by background detail. Terrain, planet, moon, etc.

Don’t worry about this bunch of nitpickers. It’s absolutely fine.

If the game were to give me an opportunity to park up and have a picnic next to my ship, maybe then I’d start to worry about the level of detail. But if I’m going to be in a situation of ships whizzing round and “all hell breaking loose ™”, I’m not even going to notice.

You still want to get something released one day, I assume.

i think you cant correctly replicate martians sunset because you should recalculate not only atm scattering but presence of dust particles and may be some more atmosphere conditions.

I am not comparing this with any other game. What I was thinking:
The environment looks photo-realistic most of the time. This ship in this screenshot doesn’t.

So what do you suggest @inoX, a good lynching?

There are ongoing HDR/light intensity issues. However, the ship will indeed look photorealistic in some light conditions, in others, not so much. PBR doesn’t mean photorealistic in every possible scenario. We won’t be able to perfectly tailor the lighting in every scene the player will find themselves in.

Jup. And that what I meant  (I remember this ship looking photo-realistic hovering in mid-air of a living room ^^)

  • I was wondering why this scene has been chosen.

To really grind some gears, make it that big freighter.

In a game where the world is a solar system, you’ll be able to take some screenshots where the assets look amazing, and then some scenario’s where they look pretty ugly.

We won’t have the resources to implement PBR Elves that follow the player around dynamically changing the exposure and other lighting parameters to make every shot look like a well crafted FPS level. Sorry
