What ever the wider-context and story is here, Elon just can’t leave it alone. Doesn’t he have enough on his plate with Space, Mars, Batteries and Cars.
Yes, hes behaving pretty stupid. Why would he even talk to a buzzfeed journalist?
But his stupidity doesn’t excuse the fact that the journalist didn’t adhere to the “off-the-record” gentlemens agreement, a real scummy move on that guys part, even for a fake journalist.
Sad that Musk hasn’t learned anything from his experiences with the media, goes to show how stupid a smart person can be. How does he not realise that all journalists want to do is generate ad revenue by any means possible?
When has anyone ever spoken to a journalist and expected what they say to be ‘off the record’?
Journalists that are actually professionnals. Not everyone of them is without moral.
All the time, in my country this is even specified in the press code.
If you have a reputation as “that journalist who burns his contacts” then you aren’t going to publish many articles
This, don’t bother me one bit. But given his recent behaviour online and in the media, maybe this wasn’t the best thing to be seen doing considering he is a major CEO head boy of massive companies. Legal or not.

My opinion is that who cares about image. If a CEO is getting their job done then let him relax. It would suck immensely if I were getting criticized in my off hours for just trying to relax. I get that he’s a CEO and in the business world maybe not the best image but life is about experiences. Having some fun and not worrying about your dayjob is exactly what someone who’s losing their mind because of them needs.
Just as an aside, the public image on MJ is changing in the US and it’s not the social taboo it once was…at least in a handful of states but even in illegal states. It is seen as no different as drinking a beer, or a glass of wine, or some whiskey like they had earlier in the show. This is in Ca and as a resident it’s ridiculously casual here. A sizable portion of the people I know both professionally and in my personal life are pretty openly smokers. It still trips me out. We have a delivery app! It’s so weird to grow up having it as this weird taboo subject and now I could order it through an app and have it delivered? Life is so strange.
That being said I think this is hilarious. I’ve only listened to a handful of JRE podcasts but I will definitely be watching this one.

Musk has always had two sides to him in my eyes.
The Musk doing work in private to keep two hugely R&D intensive companies (that traditionally bleed money hand over fist) solvent by procuring government contracts and subsidies and making some seriously cool stuff out of it.
And then the Musk in public. The Musk that trashes good ideas because it gets him attention. The Musk that’s happy with being a total media whore; hyping up stupid unworkable ideas from other people while claiming credit for them, that somehow people end up praising him for. And he’s dug up some really stupid ideas.
Hyperloop, low price hyperloop, low price BFR city to city rocket travel, cheap mars colony, manned mission to Europa ‘because radiation isn’t a big deal’, etc.
I respect the former while despising the latter.
The Jimmy Dore Show
Aside from all the memes the interview is pretty good
at 1:19:10 you really see what drives this guy
Maybe you dont get the good kind of crazy without the bad kind of crazy.
I’m looking forward to seeing their breakdown of the Most recent BFR design. The single image is intriguing.
I didn’t think the Falcon Heavy was ever intended as a human-rated system.
