Dark Theme Userscript and CSS for the Forums

For some reason i thought the LTT forum was on discourse for a second, oops, i cant really use it just being some other forum software.

I’ve updated the file in the OP, the I-Novae logo inverts to white most of the time, but it stays black sometimes due to the quirks with userscripts and discourse updating the page i mentioned earlier. It’s white most of the time though.

Are you able to make a userstyle for stylish.

The various levels of dark/grey seems good you have now. A splash of colour here and there as well.

Q. How can I copy out/save out my edited stylish code to share here. I try select all and copy but it never copys direct from the stylish basic editor window.

I don’t use stylish, so im not really sure. if someone else wants to transfer this over to stylish and post it please do so.

I figured out how to fix the I-novae logo entirely (@run-at document end), category letters, and “reply” colors. (also fixed the “like” color) File is updated again as version 3.

Now the only issues with it are it’s 4k lines when it should probably only be 500 if all the unnecessary stuff is removed.

I’m still using v1 thecoach converted for me, plus some link colour edits and changing the wider background to darkgrey. Seems to work ok.

But I’ll try to copy your v3 and add my edits back into that. Thanks for the updates.

I’ve managed to make a userstyle for stylish which seems to work well on my FFv42 (latest). using the OP’s v3.

I added commented descriptions so you can see what each of us has done, and added all this at the top so its easy for anyone to personalize the colours to their tastes.

  1. added link color for link, hover, active, and visited.
  2. added a body background grey which surrounds the forum posts.
  3. a little more invert tweaking on the main forum page logo.

There are a lot of lines which could be removed. I’m not so great at doing that. Maybe someone else with good css skills and go through and work that problem. 10989 lines to be precise. So a lot can be cut out like mattk50 says.

Just copy into a new Stylish page, preview, and then save. And edit as you like.

Its not perfect but its a dark theme that works well enough. (tested in FF v42 latest)

I uploaded the Stylish CSS (v003) to a dropbox - LINK (my next post below has latest v003a update)

For anyone wondering why black on white is chosen in the first place:

And yet I still can’t stand that so I opt for Sublime Text or a visual theme on Eclipse that is equivalent.

Research also says that people work better during the day but some people work better during the night. It’s just statistics. Every human is not the same. You can’t expect every person to be average. That’s why most try to give people a choice, so that those that are unhappy with the defaults can choose what they’re most comfortable with.

Edit: Also, that article sounds wrong to me. Light isn’t reflected in computer screens. It is emitted. And how can reading a few white letters in a dark background strain your eyes due to the amount of light being emitted, while having an entire screen worth of white and a few dark letters does not strain your eyes?

Ahh much better, my eyes can rest easy now (I hate white bg forums)

And I don’t care what MS focus groups say, they also told them they thought Windows 8 would be a good idea, ha!

Found a small mistake in the Stylish theme. The curly brace { that begins on line 10 has a matching closing brace } on line 10724. There’s more CSS below that, thus marking the theme as a global theme. It was affecting another website I visited, hiding some of its content. If you remove the curly brace from line 10724 and put it at the end of the style file, it will work properly and the style will only be applied to the forums.

Unless I made a mistake and downloaded an earlier version.

Yes well spotted. I’ve corrected that now and updated all my links to v004.

I also tweaked the dark version user script for this forum (initially created by mattk50):
