Not a Besson fan since, what, Fifth Element?
But as a long, long term Valerian & Laureline fan, it’s great to finally see it in the spotlight it deserves, with a big-budget adaptation directed by a true fan.
Fun fact: Besson made Fifth Element (with the help of V&L illustrator Mézières) because he couldn’t make a faithful adaptation of Valeiran with the budget and technologies at the time.
Fun fact bis: Star Wars is actually a Valreian knock-off. (A great knock-off, and not only a Valreian knock-off, and I’m a Star Wars fan after all, but still)
Everything is a knock-off of something else to some degree. It just depends on how much the creator relies on the source material and how much permission they seek. I believe there was an issue between Besson and Jean Giraud about Fifth Element too.

If they want lakes or even an ocean mars would need an object big enough to create a Van Allen belt.
This looks like a transcript of his talk at the IAC last year. It reuses a lot of the images from that. Still interesting and I’m definitely going to read through it. Thanks for letting me know!
