An update on the status of the Kickstarter

Haha, maybe we can have seflie explosions  Upload an image of your face and when you kill a player they are subjected to seeing your grinning face in explosion form!

How do you imagine having a reference to a backer in explosion audio? I’m probably missing something.

Edit: Ah yes… I missed the comma.

Im sure you guys realize this by now, but limit physical rewards as much as possible if you dont want to drown in the nightmare of organizing the production and delivery of all of it.

Why am I the first one to like this in 9 hours!!! That’s an amazing idea…but so susceptible to trolling…I can imagine some less than ideal pictures would choose to leave upon their death…

Edit: I just realize I clicked reply to hrobertson and not @INovaeGene

Doubledit: I just realized windows is lying to me due to dual booting(linux issues)…and it was only 2 hours. Oh well

Yes, we do know this, that’s why we’re going to be looking for the communities ideas on what they deem desirable higher tier digital rewards. We’re hoping to get away with the physical rewards being no more than t-shirts & posters. However, we want to gauge people’s expectations.

I like the idea of having in-game things named after/by high tier backers. NPC cap ships, characters, craters or asteroids, weapons and equipment, etc. Maybe stuff that’ll be in the long term lore of the universe, such as back story characters, or faction political leaders. Stuff the will spill over to the MMO.

Would pay money for asteroid that spawns randomly (but frequently) per game, that upon close inspection, has flag with my design/name on it.

I thought you said it might be in July:

There is going to be a Kickstarter. We’re currently trying to launch it by mid July.ā€

We increased the scope a bit :\

My acid-trip consulting firm returned the following results:

  • An ability on a cooldown timer to initiate an in game event wherein a space whale appears. The space whale is impervious to all known weapon fire and must be rammed with your ship until massive amounts of sugary treats pour out.
  • An in-game recording of them imitating a civilian who was killed by excessively intentional collateral damage. Extra points for having the best last words.
  • A personal digital flight doctor who asks them what the nature of the medical emergency is every time they so much as hit a micrometeorite, followed by some snark commentary on their flying.
  • Sporks
  • In-game jousting sticks on their ships…because Space-joust!!!
  • The ability to submit faux advertisements on in-game billboards. Must be arguably hilarious and not an actual product or service in real life.
  • An in-game public bathroom stall where anyone can leave them their phone numbers and crude bathroom-related commentary.
  • Free in-game towing service by a total country hick.
  • An infinity-themed in-game magic eight-ball. (or maybe out of game?)
  • Have an in-game police vehicle that can be used to pull people over and write them tickets…while under heavy fire. ā€œDo you know why I pulled you over?ā€ Boom, bang, pow! ā€œUhhh, no officerā€¦ā€
  • A fly-in movie theater where they can play their own fan-made videos that they host on youtube and the like
  • A pet rock. They’re back in style, I promise.
  • A dart-board with custom Flamberge darts.
  • A capital ship sized whoopee-cushion. Place-able on the landing pads, and has camelion technology.
  • A card-board box hangar. So they can be space-bums…
  • Space-ship sized teeter-toters. So they can have recess down on the planet.

Yeah okay…I’m done…

Pfft, I have dreams like that every night.

Related to the flag on an asteroid idea, pet rocks… in space, with googly eyes…

Pet Asteroids!

I couldn’t resist… I’m not sure a DISCLAIMER is necessary here… but obvious photoshop is obvious no?

I know it but I was thinking about Infinity:Quest for Earth. I’m (personnaly) not really interested about an arena shooter (I want to explore). In the case of a good or very good Kickstarter, I hope it’s something on the todo-list (character design, motion capture, great story, etc), so you could promise some things on it.

One of my dream is to be part of the game dev, and for this I could pay a lot. And like John Lenon said : ā€œI’m not the only oneā€.

Maybe the thing is here : don’t focus only on BattleScape for the pledges, but also on the really expected IQFE game.

The Kickstarter campaign (and subsequent pledge rewards) will only be for a single project, Battlescape.

I thought BattleScape was here to attract people (so funds), to make the development of IQFE possible… can you please explain the entire roadmap (with QFE release on finish) ?

for me it was : dev of BattleScape —> KickStarter launch with final release of BattleScape —> millions of funds —> dev of IQFE —> IQFE release

With the last update of Keith it just changed (in my mind) the fact that BattleScape was a final release at KickStarter launch, but not the entire roadmap… IQFE is no longer on the pipes ? (I know you didn’t say that, the question keeps valid)

The Kisckstarer campaign (I believe by rule) can only be for a single project, that project is Battlescape. Therefore, the reward tiers on the Kickstarter page will only relate to Battlescape, there will be no mention of the MMO on the Kickstarter page.

We need funding to build Battlescape, it will not be released at the launch of the Kickstarter.

The Infinity MMO is definitely still a long term goal for I-Novae Studios, but this Kickstarter is not for the MMO.

Battlescape is a sub-set of the MMO. In fact, it is likely that a large amount of the code, tools, assets etc… developped for Battlescape will be reused for the MMO. If we are successful, that is.

It has to be clear that if the KS for Battlescape was to fail, we as a company would be in an extremely bad spot to develop the MMO. Therefore, if you choose not to pledge to the KS because your interest in an arena shooter is limited ( which I totally understand ), you have to understand that it will decrease the likeliness of us ever being able to develop the MMO.

I’d pledge even if there’s no BattleScape at all on KickStarter launch. In fact, I’m not really interested by all of the listed things you could give me if I pledge (not interested on pledge rewards, not interested on BS, what the f*** I’m doing here :D).

I’m here because :

  1. The guys on this forum are pretty cool
  2. I finally found a forum where my pseudo can be Kamui, and not kaamui, or kamuii_, …
  3. I want to pledge for an Inovae Project as a developer (impressed by your engine)
  4. I want to pledge as an amateur game developer and as a gamer because of what QFE could be (the game I always dreamed to make)
  5. the food is good too

So don’t worry I have other reasons if QFE could not be :). And on BS, I (if possible) will be the only ship hidden behind a mountain when other ships around me, and the only ship slowly covering the planet surface (good strategy… they don’t know I secretly love guns and destroy everything mou ha ha ha ha aha)

I understand the reasoning about not mentioning MMO

But there is slight problem.
Whether you say it or not, people will either know already
or sooner or later find out about QFE.

I would suggest to be perfectly honest.
Don’t be silent about you plan to one day in a future build QFE.
Just like you explain here. Say it in the video or on kickstarter page.

Go with honesty… pretty much like you always talk with us here.
