Considering the positive response today, it may actually be better if the news sites take notice tomorrow or Friday. You know – payday! It’d be really great to see the live stream footage from this morning make the rounds through various communities today, though, and I see that the evangelism efforts are doing just that.

I’d say that’s a slight understatement. These forums, and the tentacles of the Internet we’re connected to, have fairly well exploded into life! That’s to be expected with the launch day of course, but this amount of excitement surely has to develop it’s own kind of momentum.
I bet there’s Science for that.

Given the number of people who have tried to throw money at their screen over this game over the years, I wouldn’t. I think the response has been very good, but keep in mind the exponential decay curve of Kickstarter campaigns. The Kickstarter needs a lot more backing before it becomes a runaway phenomenon.

But you have to remember, those things are just speculation. Kickstarter pledges are not a linear graph, they usually look like a curve: there tend to be a lot more pledges during the beginning and the end of a campaign. And it’s pretty hard to predict what that curve will look like.
Edit: Predictions tend to be a bit more accurate after the first few days are over, but even then the final day surge might be enough to prove those predictions wrong. Plus, this campaign has yet to receive any coverage from any of the big millions-of-readers media, which is certain to cause another surge when it happens.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing a small spike in contributions very shortly, as most of the US has just, or is about to, return home from work.

Never liked reddit, too messy IMO.
How it works is that every subreddit is unrelated to the others, gets links submitted to it and voted on, stuff that is new and popular will be on the front page. If it’s a large subreddit like games then that cycle is very fast with a big competition for the front page, while the infinity subreddit only hosts infinity content so it stays for months.

So… how’s the second day? What would we ideally want to reach in the 2nd day?
Kicktraq says the campaign got 2^10 backers on the first day. Would be a funny coincidence if it got 2^9 on the second. 
Of course, I wouldn’t complain if it got more…
Couldn’t fall asleep, so I decided to remake the OP a bit. Below I present in both tabular and graph form, the required daily pledge level per day, as well as the cumulative fundraising goal per day. Of course this assumes a specific and fairly arbitrary exponential decay rate, so it’s just a shot in the dark. Link to google sheets doc included if you want to mess around with the graph (edit the numbers on the far right of the sheet) - the link is read only, so clone yourself a copy first. (graph formatting from excel -> sheets got a bit screwy, pardon).
