Date of the kickstarter?

Regarding space dogfights, I just want to point out that Kerbal space Program is heavily moddable and has a working multiplayer mod, so you could easily make a ship with infinite fuel and whatever thrust you want to test things out.

Addmittedly, I was assuming that any spaceship capable of doing this would also be capable of stopping the pilot being mashed to a pulp through use of future-tech. :stuck_out_tongue:

Depends on the state-of-art of the “future-tech”
If cancelling gravity is made possible, one can imagine “gravity-dampers” to accept higher acceleration / deceleration.

If not … well you better pray to have “warp” travels that does not go above 10m/s or else you may end as a bloody pulp in your fiction

100m/s2 is just 10.2 G. not so much big for human even now. what can we expect in the future? G-suits for 20G?

A typical person tolerance to g-forces is usually 3-5 g and g-suits usually add 1 g to that limit, then the limit acc with a gsuit is 60m/s2 (wich is insane acc). The thing with g-suits is that they are only designed to avoid the pilot of suffering g-LOC, which is hypoxia cause of the blood drilling out of the brain. With 10.2g there is no g-suit or nothing actually avoiding you to die or suffering serious injures.

Just think 20g is like 20 times your weight, so imagine a 20*70=1400kg weight pulling down every cm of your body, even your blood.

Maybe in the future they make a titanium made g-suit and it dont get damaged, but you surelly will end mashed to a pulp…inside the suit.

And attaining to the topic: Will you devs launch the kickstarter this fall? And what % of the video is done?

Last word that I saw was that they are first waiting for some of the devs to get back from summer holidays.

I’d like to believe that that means they are aiming for September, though the wording still leaves it a bit open.

Yeah… you’re wrong.

3-5g is what an average adult human being can manage before brownout without any training, equipment, or concious reaction. Astronauts regularly deal with 8g or more on reentry (for example 8g was what Gagarin had to survive), and this is a space game we’re talking about.

10.2g is certainly not something I’d want to have to deal with for extended periods, but it’s by no means immediately deadly. For example, the average human body can tolerate momentary acceleration of up to 50g without so much as suffering broken bones, and the skull is built for closer to 100g.

What’s the term…

Bullshit.

Average density of human body tissue is slightly less than water (this is why we float) so you’d have 20 grams pulling down on every cubic cm of body, and some amount pushing down from above. Oh and right now there’s 1000 grams of air pushing on every square cm of your body.

Not that I would recommend anyone subjecting themselves to 20g of acceleration for extended periods. It would probably kill you within a minute or two, but you’d be unconscious for most of it so it wouldn’t hurt or anything.

Yes I have probably exagerated a little bit, but the main idea was not to analize of the g effects of human body, it was to determine a reallistic acceleration limit for the gameplay (not speed limit, which I consider unnecessary). However you have said something interesting, i didnt know about that momentary 50g tolerance, so do you think player could realistically get acceleration bursts trespassing the acceleration limit for short periods of time? That would be a fantastical gameplay experience in some situations.

It’s why car crashes, even at high speeds, aren’t always fatal.

Well we are talking very short periods of times. Milliseconds, maybe tens of milliseconds, and as mentioned using something like this would quite literally feel like being in a carcrash of the “frontal collision with bridge” variety.

But yeah, if anyone can come up with a technobabble explanation for the engine-design, it could act as an evasion mechanic.

milliseconds? no way. you are underestimate human race )))
wikipedia: “Typical max. turn in an aerobatic plane or fighter jet 9–12 g”.

They weren’t talking about 9-12g…

edit: And if anyone wants to continue talking about acceleration vs g tolerance I’d recommend starting a new thread, this conversation has been taken off topic for quite a while now.

Because not only it is dangerous for prolonged periods of time for the pilot (ejecting put them through about 20g, but for a very short time), but also because the plane itself tend to spontaneously disassemble beyond that.

Also, I would be very surprised if no better anti-g equipment was invented in the future. Better anti-g combinations, putting the pilot in a (breathable) liquid, reinforcing the pilot’s body, some sort of inertia dampener using some sort of magnetic field or something to keep the pilot together, removing the pilot’s body and only putting their (heavily reinforced) brain to make for an extreme cyborg…

Inertial dampeners being a staple of science-fiction, we can assume the Infinity people have those and can scoff at 50g acceleration if needed.
The ICP had 50g acceleration and it was pretty fun.

Oooooh, yes. Some sort of planetside mining/resource acquisition thing would be sweet. It would make planets worth defending and fighting over. Maybe even some sort of structure that would rapidly accelerate ships/resources into orbit (think something along the lines of a railgun). That would be pretty nice!

Ships could have gravity drive. Save some of the drive to equal out the “G”.

Let’s get this thread back into the proper tracks, which is … the kickstarter !

Personally, I would pledge something like around 100 bucks, perhaps more over time depending on my own situation. What about you ?

I still live under my parent’s wings so all depends on them :stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah, the proper thing would be create a post in order to discuss all those little reallistic gameplay things.

PD sorry again for my english, i know i’m writing something wrong at every post.

Depends on how much the KS game goes for the stick and how much spending money I have.

yes please take your time. Please don’t pull a StarForge. By what I’ve seen your team is doing a fantastic job.

Is that video still coming out? Or are you going straight to the kickstarter now?

And what is the new release date for the video and kickstarter campaign? Cant find it anywhere.

You can’t find it because they decided to stop giving dates, a really good decision.

@AngryMarine, you have been around long enough to know Infinity timelines, take what you think is reasonable for a particular release, then add 500% of time to that and half the content
