Weekly Update #45

Hey all here’s the last update of the year. This week has primarily consisted of trying to get loose ends tied up before everyone heads out for the holidays. On the coding side I’m continuing work on our new UI system while Flavien is working on cleaning up some low level game code. Everyone is focused on getting all of the new content integrated for our next patch. The new networking code should be available for the first time in the patch following the next one. Due to the upcoming free Alpha weekend we’re afraid of breaking everything at the exact moment Alpha backers first get to try the game so new code will be integrated afterward.

The art side has been working on asset cleanup and LOD generation. A large portion of the conversation this week has been about our plan for 2017. The items on our immediate to-do list once we get back from holiday vacation are releasing the next patch, the free play weekend for Alpha backers, and then of course shipping the Alpha. The next weekly update, which probably won’t be for 2 weeks, will be our 2016 retrospective followed by our high level roadmap for the new year.

We’d like to take this opportunity to once again thank all of you for supporting this project. It’s been one hell of a journey so far and hopefully it’s only the beginning. During the Kickstarter campaign we announced that we’d do our best to be transparent during the development of Infinity: Battlescape and we hope we’re living up to that expectation. It’s our on-going goal as a company to be engaged with our backers and the members of our community.

That’s about it for this update, we wish you all the best for the rest of your 2016 and look forward to seeing you in January!

Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and a happy New Year to you all! See you in 2017!

Bomber looks great.

Sounds great.

Isn’t a free fly weekend the perfect opportunity to stress test the new network code though? Why not do the weekend a week after the network patch, if the game breaks at that point you can always just do the weekend with the older version.
Assuming the networking patch isn’t that far off from the content patch of course.

A lot has changed since the yearly retrospectives were the only updates we got on the project ;). 2016 has been a pretty shitty year but I’m happy to say battlescape is one of the few good things that came out of it. Keep it up guys you’re doing great.

Congratulations to everyone at INS for your first official year of development. All the best for 2017!

My only regret is with the ship models pretty much done, we probably won’t see thermal management used instead of the boring energy system, as it would require hardpoints for heat radiators.

Happy holidays to everyone at INS.

Nah. You can explain away everything. Also why not something that hasn’t been done … well at least not that often, something new.
What’s currently in the pre-alpha is pretty much just … something.

Happy Whatever!

This will certainly need to happen at some point to test the code, but from a PR point of view, this will be the first time Alpha backers get their hands on the prototype - therefore it’s probably best if it’s not based on new, potentially buggy netcode!

Have a nice Christmas and happy new year to you guys as well.
You are being exemplary.

Happy holidays and come back well rested.

/wounders why the front end of the ship doesn’t have a pict

You better not read this until after the holidays!!!

What do you guys think of the gold foil insulation on the bomber? I am torn between “out of place” and “nice lowtech detail”

its just cause your eyes are drawn to it since its only other colour on the model not gray.
Once textured you wont see it.

I think he also means the relative tech level. I’m not against it, but I can see how it looks more present day NASA than future tech.

Merry Christmas
