I thought you were here to beat me to this:
Video of musk talking with colbert on his new show. I just saw that thread on the spacex subreddit but haven’t watched it yet. Will watch it soon!
edit: don’t forget the suits!

And we get to see the first glimpses of their new spacesuits they’ve been designing. Return to flight can’t happen soon enough, so much stuff to do yet…
Off the record, my friend had a friend who works at spaceX and got sent pictures of the mockups of their new suits and he wasn’t supposed to share but I got to see them. They look awesome.
This was awhile ago though so it’s probably changed by now…(1 year +)
It is stylish ill give em that. Now just don’t forget about bugs guys.
Would be a shame to brake such fancy rocket.

It’s a good thing they’ve got you to remind them…
So a Falcon Heavy can put a loaded Dragon on Mars.
“In expendable mode, Falcon Heavy can send a fully loaded Dragon to Mars or a light Dragon to Jupiter’s moons. Europa mission wd be cool.”
…
“Dragon 2 is designed to land on any surface (liquid or solid) in the solar system. Am glad to see people thinking about applications!”

To expand, there was a conference yesterday on a “Red Dragon” mission where the mars 2020 rover would collect samples and bring it to a dragon capsule which would have a return vehicle inside it to send the samples back to Earth. Sounds rad but I still don’t know how you could make a return vehicle fit inside a dragon!
I guess if it somehow was launched through the docking port(modified to be a launch silo) and used the dragon as a first stage but that’s complete speculation. I have seen zero numbers so take my word with a grain of salt(or three).
I think putting the capsule at surface would be good enough first step.
Small rocket mail would be nice touch, the cherry on the top.
Well, SpaceX has released another photo of the interior of dragon as well as Musk showing off their new pressure suits. Remember, they are flight suits and not EVA suits which is why they don’t have to be too bulky.

I CAN’T NOT SEE THIS!!!

Great, now I can’t not see that.
Well, at least the suit looks cool. #Drool
It is of note however that the /r/spacex community believes the second image to be possibly photoshopped. That and that the suit doesn’t match what was shown in the interior reveal video means that these might not yet be the final design.
I hope they are though, the gray looks great and sufficiently high tech sci fi like.
I am looking forward to see how good their new interior works. Hopefully it wont turn into a fireball.
Also, HDR photography anyone?
I read the very same thread, perhaps before they decided it was shopped, where they spoke about in the photographer who usually does real shots. Hey I’ve been wrong before!
I know this was awhile ago, but this video is just amazing!
I’ve never watched it before but the camera follows the rocket all the way until fairings jettison. Watching MECO and stage separation was really really cool!
More importantly - SpaceX return to flight is scheduled(pending 0 delays) to launch orbcomm satellites on November 24th. Less than a month to go!
Wow I thought you meant attached to the rocket but it was observing it from the ground the entire way! Even seeing the control thrusters firing was fascinating
I guess that could be misinterpreted I’ll reword that heh. It’s really interesting to see how gasses expand at higher altitudes. You can directly contrast the RCS bursts using that video and the video of CRS-6’s landing attempt(or maybe it was DISCOVR, not sure which) that almost landed but broke a leg.
The closer to vacuum you get, the quicker and more homogeneously exhaust plumes disperse. Another illustration is the Apollo LM’s departure.
You see the same kind of thing with main engines on launch vehicles as they go from sea level to higher altitudes.
What I should have said is that I love watching exhaust expansion as rockets rise
