Procedural generation in Star Citizen

Yeah, we were talking about this over on the star-citizen thread already.

Long story short, the landing area was custom-built and the rest of the planet is a fair ways smaller, flatter and blander than the procedural worlds in Rodina.

In fairness though, we already knew landing areas would be custom built, they’ve said as much in the past.

Their real challenge is going to come when they need to somehow generate inhabited planet surfaces.

I wonder how difficult it would be to create a procedural cityscape; I mean I wonder if it’s possible to do so with some kind of visual fidelity without it just looking like crap.

I know they’ve said something in relation to the Terra city and PG to help build out locations faster. I’m assuming it’s all just R&D though.

Best people to talk to about procedural cityscapes would be Introversion, perhaps. That was the only thing that ended up coming out of Subversion, after all
