I would love to see a 5-on-1 high speed chasing battle through the canyon. Maybe done carefully so that they mouse doesn’t get destroyed. At the end the mouse pulls an Ivan, flies straight into the cats and their hail of blaster bolts, pulls up hard and escapes into. Video finishes on the mouse flying off into the black at warp.
Here’s a thought:
Many forums don’t support direct video integration, and many people are too lazy to click links and watch videos. So why not opt for animated GIFs? They can be imbedded directly into forum posts, they’re easy to host on sites like imgur or gfycat, and we can directly target aspects of the game that we want to visually showcase. This would allow a little more flexibility in what we can showcase, and it allows others the convenience of not having to deal with YouTube links.
For example: A short (~5-10 sec) sped-up video recording of entering a planet from a long distance away, made in the form of an animated gif and posted to the likes of reddit, RSI, etc. No links, just straight-to-the-point animations.
careful with those
Too many gifs and loading of said site takes pc to a crawl until fully loaded.
It can eve crash your browser if you have opened too many browsers…
Gifs are cool but can be really annoying at times.
It’s better to just use webm / vines for not too long animations. They are a fraction of the size of a gif, have audio, better visual quality… And all you have to do is hover your mouse above it to start it (at worst)
i like those but rarely their link work on other sites… perhaps am doing it wrong
That isn’t always true … but I agree as long as they work on said forum. When uploading to gifycat there’s always a fallback gif anyway.
well as a rule of thumb (at least a rule that I use): If the number of different colors in the source material exceed 256, the webm version has a better visual quality than a gif.
Then again, I am assuming that the dude making the video knows how to properly convert source material. It’s easy to screw up which would lead to a massive drop in quality.
I also tested it with a vine some days ago, and it worked without a hitch (used a certain cynical brits vine for testing because, honestly, I have no idea how to make a vine, and wanted to make sure it works on the forum before investing time into learning how to make a vine)
One of the most requested features even for Infinity: Battlescape is walking on planets. I say make a video why you are not adding that feature:
The video starts with the Hellion landing on a planet and the switching the camera view of a ~2 metre high person. The camera moves at 1 metre per second speed(slow walking) with sounds of the footsteps added. Player heads to the top of a hill but after several uneventful seconds another Hellion goes by at Mach 2/3 speeds and lands on the hill.
Video time: less than 2 minutes
Resources required: Programming a HUD-less offset camera. Two players, the cameraman and an ace pilot(for quick landing). Extra sound effects added ingame or on the recording.
I don’t think they need to justify the omission of walking as a matter of logistic comparison. I think most people understand that getting around in a ship is insurmountably faster, but what they’re after is not about travel. There are people who want to fly off to a private place, get out of their ships and have a picnic or something.
I think this is quite clearly explained by the fact that the game is a combat sim, not an RPG.

im not pasting the same picture twice
They don’t want to walk around and admire the dirt, they want to hop out of their ship at the factory and fight their way in for control. When that ship goes flashing overhead at Mach 6, it’s not doing much for the fight to secure the codes to the plant’s reactor.
Multiple ships fighting around a freighter or a group of freighters. They are the closest thing to a capital ship atm.
Why are these people not playing Derek Smart’s ‘awesome’ Line of Defense game that does just that then?
[edit] I viewed that video idea more comparable to World of Tanks advertisement videos, which while successful… makes fun of other games. Ehh, I guess we will have to wait until April fools.
